If you don't object on principle to government discrimination against trans people because that's directly targeting "only" about 2 million people in the US—and you really should, but if you've decided it doesn't hurt enough people to be consequential—then at least think of "First they came for..."

Trans people might be less than 1% of the US population, but that still translates to well over a million Americans (probably over 2m, estimates vary).
To put that number in perspective, FIRE's database of deplatformings—a national free speech crisis, remember?—lists 734 cases total, over 27 years.

Their construction is passive— they have to act like it just happened, because they cannot and will not own their complicity in the descent into fascism.

You get that NYT doesn't want to face how much they enabled the present moment, right? Sanewashing Trump's insanity, as if any part of the destruction of democracy is inconsequential or positive.
Beseides, can you imagine how much more skewed it'd be if they'd included Pamela Paul in the mix?

Like 12 dudes have all the money and property, it would be good if it was just taken away from them so that human beings could live their lives. Give them each $50,000 for their trouble and get them skill training so they can finally work for a living.
