Here in the Chicago area, the news coverage about him is pretty widespread. I agree that he seems to be areally decent, caring man, but I don’t know about woke. They are reporting that when he lived here, he voted in the Republican primaries.

We grew up in the same neighborhood about 3 miles apart. Went to the same church. It’s a very much lower middle class area in the south suburbs of Chicago. He seems very much a product of this environment and really a common man who made good.

Late in my teaching career I found myself working as a teacher aide in a room with several autistic kids. It was challenging but supremely rewarding. Unlike the kids I had taught in the past, these kids were all kind hearted and, once you got to know them, were the gentlest and most honest people.
