I didn’t even check to see if supertommyc was taken this time. That’s aging I guess. Build a rocket, join a union, there’s a world to save and we’re running out of time

This was supposed to be the thing that delivered the singularity. These guys were supposed to be inventing God. This was supposed to be a revolutionary transformation in the global economy that would make the steam engine and internet look tiny. And it's just, not that.

This is everything, by the way: wars, austerity, economy, elections, on and on. The lads arbitrarily decide what’s they want without much thought, and then impose it without discussion. The end. If it fucks up then well, everyone wanted it and said it was good, didn’t they, so nobody is to blame.

I know the material reasons for the rise of fascism. I also think another reason - which doesn’t get talked about as much because it’s embarrassing that humans can be that naive - is that when you are financially comfortable but bored, abstract cruelty can give you a sense of purpose.

If only there had been some signs in the 21st century that we were dismantling and disregarding international institutions and deliberately moving towards a world where great powers commit atrocities with impunity and force other countries to accept terrible injustices. Sadly etc etc

Do we like it when America is dicking off international law or not, lads. Crushing and dismembering other countries by force strikes me as something we should’ve been taking a consistent line on, and not a kind of a la carte attitude.

He’s not an idiot, he knew very well and either he wanted it or he didn’t care, which are the same thing in effect.

It’d be a real problem if the fucked state of the public realm and Britain’s increasingly septic and absurdly corrupt political sphere had anything to do with the dominant political and economic orthodoxy of the era, and its adherents. Thankfully not, it’s all because of the blue-haired students.

I mean, I knew how heavily orchestrated and choreographed the wrecking campaign was. But the sight of the entire country’s press going “Oh wow, lots of Blairites around, whatever could be happening here” when they knew very well, some of them *in 2018*, is IMO unforgiveable wanker behaviour.

It turns out this particular political atmosphere did not lead to the production of capable members of parliament who work for their constituents, but instead promoted halfwits and people who want the press to give them headpats.
