Doom scrolling takes a new meaning today

One of my more Alan Partridge views (of many, I'll admit that) is that Gatwick is the best of the London Airports. Its elegant perimeter road, its state-of-the-art monorail system, its kerosene-stuffed aeroplanes soaring overhead like aluminium eagles. It’s the London airport it’s OK to like.

A moment

Yes, students going to the union bar on a Friday is the cause of anaemic growth since the financial crisis.

A murder on campus. A plucky PhD student and her reluctant supervisor procrastinate by turning detective. That's 'Publish or Perish', tonight at nine, on ITV.

A hero.

as someone on the zoomer/millennial boundary i feel there's a legit problem with people not knowing how to purchase groceries

The Fortnums English wine range is a bit Daily Express. For instance, an English white, which they call "Freedom of the Press". "I'll have a glass of Freedom of the Press, mate" Was fortunate enough to try it. Tastes like flatulence and £29 a bottle, too. 1/

Do we think the King has ever read a Jilly Cooper novel?

I enjoy the split between "philosophical" and "religious" here. We profoundly object to the Meno, so we simply had to homeschool.

Earlier today I mentioned reading attempts at writing by very rich people. It's kind of interesting that, while not universal, there are certain common faults. Lots of newbie writing has pitfalls, but if you're rich (and hey, I do reader's reports), these are the things to watch out for. 1/

Some have said the assisted dying debate has been "parliament at its best". I'm not so sure. Instead I think religion has quietly played a dominant role in the debate, distorted the conversation, with few believing MPs being straightforward about why. My piece for the i. inews.co.uk/opinion/mps-...

Whatever the ultimate merits/demerits of assisted dying, any argument based on "parliamentary scrutiny" is flawed (& transparent). More parliamentary debating/committee time doesn't improve legislation. Parliament is bad at it. Impact assessments and public consultations equally waste of time

With all this youth unemployment chatter, let me say this as someone who's been there - being unemployed (and not living at home) is rubbish but getting a graduate job is insanely difficult for many. Got to help people into *sustainable* jobs not just send them into temp work to massage stats.
