No mention of injuries as a reason why Villa have struggled recently on the ITV coverage. EIGHT PLAYERS OUT LADS.

Just the 8 first team players unavailable to Villa tonight. Bonkers.

Feel very lucky that I couldn’t watch tonight. I love that we’ve got players like Rashford & Asensio in. I hope it’s ambition. I’m worried it’s desperation. We can’t bank on UCL/FA Cup success. Reality is they could have nowt to play for in 3 weeks. Hope the club isn’t UCL or bust.

Serious teams don’t lose 4-1 at Palace. Injuries or not, that’s Villa’s 24-25. If we got Rashford and Asensio we need CL football, oh dear.

The thing Villa need to avoid is having Rashford and Asensio sitting around in April or May with nothing to play for. Obvious statement but we need to win games to keep season alive and justify the outlay. They’re good players, which should help with that!

Palace feels exactly like the kind of game we lose. Busy schedule, against a busy team and we’re stretched in a lot of places. Win tonight would be huge. Think we’ll see some rotation in the 3 behind Watkins, could see Malen starting. Would kill for Kamara tonight, or any other midfielder available.

Loving the sustainable ethos at Villa Park, recycling chants for new players from the ones who have left. Asensio actually fits the Coutinho one better.

Tough one for Maatsen last night, although thought he improved in the second half. Would love to see him and Torres get some minutes together. We’re not really getting any use out of him going forward, mainly because he’s not really getting the ball higher up the pitch.

Two Rashford assists, two Asensio goals. We live in a simulation

Villa really don’t have to be much better to win this. Not sure it’s on the cards though. LOTS of options on the bench.

Would love to read something in the coming months on the reality of Villa’s financial situation. Lots of concerning noises coming out. You would assume these owners were smarter than to overreach but some clarity - though unlikely - would be great.

Not sure a lot games between teams in the same league is quite what they had in mind for the sexy new Champions League format

One aberration apart, the back four actually looked really good. Encouraging from Disasi.

Rest of the season could be a lot of fun. Villa have got to go for it in every game and have players to threaten anyone. Don’t think we’ll die wondering.

That was a lot of fun. Would’ve loved to win but great to see us manage the last 10 mins, sort of. Enjoyable night.

This second half could be anything

Great insight and a fairly unsettling read. Hoped our PSR woes would be eased by the outgoings but this paints a grim picture for the summer. Perhaps reading too much into it. If the club is banking on consistent UCL qualification then we could be in trouble.

Villa with 5 games in 14 days and Kamara basically out of all of them immediately. This season has been a nonstarter with regards to any kind of consistency. Need to hope Konsa is fit for Chelsea otherwise that’s a very strange CB pairing. Mings and Digne, anyone?!

Am I right in thinking 8th could get Conference League depending on cup winners/Chelsea?

Might regret this comment but Liverpool on Wednesday might be exactly what we need. Big team, big game and they can be got at. First start for Rashford and/or Asensio and we’ll get a lot of chances on transition. Should be fun. Schedule a joke but that kind of occasion our season needs.

This is it. Doesn’t feel like we’re playing too badly in lots of games but it looks really hard for us to score while it’s quite simple for the opposition.

Big thing this season is we’re a good team who have been too easy to play against. Injuries play a part, yes, also just haven’t been able to take our opportunities. Just never got going this season, although weirdly still so much to play for.

Two less pressing questions from today: 1. Is Garcia right or left footed? I’m assuming right but dribbles a lot with his left 2. How was Kamara not done for a back pass? From where I was sat it looked like he’d shot at Martinez who made a decent save

It’s felt disjointed all season. Look at how often we have to change our starting XI and defence, it makes sense. Also, just within games, they could be better. It’s frustrating as hell but I think it’s growing pains. Second half looked like XI players thrown together, which they sort of were.

I thought the Rashford sub came too early. He had a decent impact but we’d at least built up a head of steam at the end of first half. Just all too slow in the second half. A bad afternoon.

Can understand us conceding goals because we can barely go 45 mins without changing the back four but didn’t looks right going forward today at all. Looked a bit tired, which isn’t a great sign

Must win today. Bench looks strong considering who we’ve got out. A bit concerned about how many minutes Tielemans and Kamara are putting in. Would be lovely to be able to rotate them.

Any word on what Onana’s injury actually is?

Thinking about our season so far, there are absolutely points we’ve left out there and some sub-par performances. I genuinely put most of it down to injuries. We haven’t had a settled XI for so long now, especially in defence. Midfield always changing as a result. It’s never really mentioned.

New Villa shop in the Bullring reminds of the Villa concessions that used to be in random shops all about the West Midlands. My personal haunt was the Birthdays card shop in Lichfield city centre. Just going in and looking at reebok training stuff and Villa stationary. Good times.

I think Nedeljkovic has talent but saw yesterday that Garcia is a level above him. Got the system straight away and had a good instinct for when to stay and when to go. Makes sense because he’s a couple of years older but he looks ready to play now. Coped well with Tel/Son. A big lad too.

Encouraging from the 4 new players. Feels like an opportunity to kick on now. Konsa a sickener but scoring more goals will only help us. Will forgive the soft goal today, lots of mitigating circumstances. Rashford has good energy, Asensio so so good. Garcia really solid and Malen looked strong.

Felt like the whole team puffed their chest out when the subs came on. Spurs so open but they were playing those risky passes and moving with real purpose. Basically, just really fun.

This is a Marco Asensio fan account now. Wow. Even if we just bring him on for 30 mins each game, a cut above.

Imagine hearing in August we’d have an FA Cup 4th round tie with Rashford and Asensio up front and Kamara and Bogarde at centre back.
