Besides the blue light glasses (which I also use) I turn a warm screen mode on all possible devices. (Apple calls it “night mode” - I forget what windows calls it but my PC can do it too.) I only turn off this mode when coloring to see more accurate colors/what art will look like for everyone else.

I’m 80-90% digital at this point (for a myriad of reasons) altho’ I do miss that new comic smell! Most of what I buy physically are collected editions/graphic novels.

Update: it went fine! Thankfully, NO sedation complications - he’s just cranky (and who wouldn’t be)!

I do his haircuts myself and his big sister helps distract him so not tooo bad, but he does start to go nuts if I take too long! We calm him down with a nice bath after too.

Glad he hasn't had to go through it yet (and fingers crossed that continues!) But yeah, it's scary to get yourself mentally prepared for it as a possibility even.

You bet! The ink got gunked up one time (in my many years of using it) - I ran the printer through a few ink cleaning cycles and it went back to working great.

Also, side-note: I don’t use the authentic printer ink (even though I believe doing so voids the warranty) - I use this cheap stuff. Been workin fine for me!

I mostly use 11x17" and I have a Brother MFC-J6520DW - I have to feed in the larger paper through the back which can be a little finicky but I got used to it. This specific panel I printed on 8.5x11" (but also fed through the back because it's too thick to go through the paper tray properly.)

Yes! Specifically for my webcomic, which I do mostly traditionally because that brings me the most joy. I convert the pencil scan to non-photo blue to print. Having it on its own page keeps the inks nice and crispy with no pencil smudges or erasing issues. I recommend it!

Anybody who wants to get vaccinated (against a provably deadly disease) SHOULD be able to! There shouldn’t be obstacles caused by the MFin’ FDA! Yes, we have built up SOME immunity but that does not mitigate all risk, especially for our immuno-compromised people - whose lives matter just as much.

My kid (who’s almost 3) has been hospitalized 4 times so far (for about a week each) because he got a severe lung infection (bronchitis/asthma) which started from Rhinovirus - AKA the COMMON COLD. And you’re telling me we’re gonna let Covid run amok??

People with high-risk conditions also depend on heathy people to get vaccinated too. That’s the only way we can stop and weaken Covid. Immuno-compromised people deserve to live and not be in constant fear over preventable shit.

My wife went on a virtual panel with the FDA about a month ago (regarding MECP2) - they asked her (and other parents with kids like ours) how the FDA could help. Shoulda said, “Don’t do this!” I don’t think a lot of people comprehend how life-threatening Covid is for immuno-compromised people.

The FDA, which just now put my son’s life (and countless others) more at risk, is also the group that will be evaluating the drug which could save and vastly improve his quality of life.

Bringing it back to my son, there’s an experimental treatment in the works for my son’s condition right now. If it has positive results in the clinical trial phase, the drug will need FDA approval to get commercially produced. We are depending on them to NOT suck (which is why I’m extra furious)!

So many deaths that could be prevented - that’s the only outcome I can see here. How have we not learned from what we all JUST went through in very recent memory?! FDA taking a fat fucking L with their credibility (via their willingness to bend to RFK Jr) today.

Are you guys ready for Covid pandemic 2.0?! This time brought to you by sheer stupidity and “vaccine skepticism”
comment in response to

I know this is probably MOSTLY RFK Jr.'s doing, but how the hell did the FDA let this happen. What the actual fuck.

People who are immuno-compromised and don't have health insurance or the ability/know-how to hassle with this are going to die. And beyond people with high-risk conditions, we're STILL discovering longterm effects of Covid on relatively healthy people!

Oh absolutely, I concur! Overall it was still a great experience for sure.

My biggest gripe with my SCAD experience is that there really was no business class, no focus on contracts or how to set varying rates for who owns the rights to your work/how clients can use it, finding an agent, generally how to avoid getting screwed over. This stuff should be a required course.

We are in a rough period for paying art jobs (especially comics) right now, so that is also something to note on whether or not it could be worth it. I have to believe there will be a place for artists to survive and thrive in the future - we just might have to fight for it.

Basically, if you’re able to make those connections for yourself (maybe local artist hangs or online like @cartoonist.coop ) and you’re able to develop your skills, art college is nice (if you can find a way to afford it) but you can absolutely make your way as an artist without one.
