remember when this guy covered up a brutal police killing? i do!

This struck me as the perfect distillation of JD Vance. He is a shockingly incurious and unserious guy who has faked his way into the center of power and now thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room.

Your dignity honors the bravery of the Ukrainian people. Be strong, be brave, be fearless. You are never alone, dear President Zelenskyy. We will continue working with you for a just and lasting peace.

We non-native English speakers know how uncomfortable and difficult is being under pressure in a language that is not your own. Can’t even imagine in an extreme situation like this

Where is Keir Starmer?

Turns out Zelenskyy is good at standing up against dictators.

I have covered presidential politics for 40 years. This was the most juvenile display by a President and Vice President I have ever seen. Other presidents treated their enemies with more respect. This is a low point and a dark day for the US. Totally embarrassing.

“Thank you” is one of more common sentences Zelensky and other Ukrainians said around the world. In Oxford, one Brit said in the event for the anniversary of the war to Ukrainians: “Please, stop thanking us. We should thank you.”

“Engaged”? “Heated exchange”?

A new paper analyzes 2015-2018 content from 12 Sinclair-owned stations purchased in 2016-2017. It finds that "once a station is purchased by Sinclair, its volume of climate change reporting drops...and the public becomes less aware climate change is happening." journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1...

Bentancur instantly booked, while City stop 2 attacks with fouls and not a yellow card in sight.

Merz just said on German TV that the primary priority of his government will be to ensure that Europe can achieve full strategic independence from the United States in the defence against Russia. Merz was once a die hard Atlanicist. Now, after Trump he is a Gaullist. Extraordinary.

“Israel’s recent wars mark a leading instance in which commercial AI models made in the United States have been used in active warfare, despite concerns that they were not originally developed to help decide who lives and who dies” Must read investigation by AP apnews.com/article/isra...

It’s OK—I promise, it’s not an excuse—to state the obvious. Spurs are a bad team when missing 70% of key players for 2 months and a very good team, as you’d expect, when most of the actual team is available. There’s no magic here, no secrets.

AFP statement on the White House's decision to bar AP from the Oval Office and from Air For One

Great example of the jagged frontier- even smart AIs have weaknesses at basic tasks. Reading clocks is hard because AI vision systems are crude & calendar facts require vision & math The best model, Gemini, gets only 22% of clocks rights, while o1 gets 80% of calendar questions.

Scientists and journalists need to figure out right quick how to explain to the average person how a massive change in research indirects will impact the medical care they and their children get (eg at the local children’s hospital), the education their children will get, the price of tuition, etc.

Last night Postecoglu set Spurs up as the pundits have been demanding for months, they were utterly thrashed,. Today pundits in unison "Postecoglu hasn't got a clue."

For months the media has demanded that Ange Postecoglou be "more pragmatic" with his "insane" tactics. Today's narrative after yesterday's loss: "What happened to Ange-Ball?"

Half-hilarious, half-infuriating

Listening to this week’s @vftlpodcast.bsky.social after Spurs’ latest calamity and you can tell how upset the hosts are because someone is clicking a pen throughout the recording 😂🙏

Excellent NYT interview with the outgoing U.S. ambassador to Hungary. This is a key insight!

It's pretty incredible how Bezos/Lewis are destroying the most important asset for any newspaper: its people

1. CAUGHT ON ZILLOW Popular Information has identified dozens of LA landlords who jacked up rents by as much as 100% after the fires started and thousands of people lost their homes. California's price gauging law prohibits increasing rent by more than 10% during a state of emergency

Let's not forget that the 3rd-Party Fact-Checking program is powered by a really remarkable global network of extremely dedicated & skilled journalists, who have put literally years of their lives into helping make sure that our digital spaces are less impacted by dangerous mis and dis-information.

🚨In Nature🚨 Meta is dropping fact-checking to avoid anti-conservative bias- but is there actually evidence of bias? We this test empirically & find that conservatives * ARE suspended more * BUT share more misinfo So suspension isn't necessarily evidence of bias www.nature.com/articles/s41...
