They ban things all the time just bc they don't want the game to be played certain ways. Look no further than the history of pass interference rules.
It's a boring, ugly play. There's plenty of precedent of the league making rules to avoid things like that.

It is a flag to accidentally make glancing contact with a QBs helmet when trying to bat a pass down.
But holding a rugby scrum is okay?
Idk... again, I'm not passionate about this from a strategy point of view. At worst, it's just a fairly boring play.
But you can't tell me it's not dangerous.

And to be clear, I have no dog in this fight. I like Jalen Hurts and I'm not trying to see a play he has mastered taken away from him.

Jason Kelce said that the play took an enormous toll on his body.
It's also common sense that a rugby style play with 300 lbs men piling up their weight on each other is sketchy. The league has a well established history of making the game safer.
Rules are rarely made for lineman safety though.

The strong reactions from defenders of the play are so strange to me.
I'm not inherently against it, but is pretty clearly a dangerous play. It doesn't seem outlandish to me that they would want to eliminate it.
