I prefer 8 to 3. But I don't think it's better. I just like it more.

My first thought was GOD of course. Although I should have known better from The Buddha. But, worse, G was already taken :)

Actual time 4:30. Had everything except the 9th word was still ".o." and struggled for a good half a minute to think what would arise in such a person with the letters available!

They're just Aemerican. On the whole their spellings are more logical. Also why do we put oe and ae etc. in those words when they're oi and ai in Greek anyway?
comment in response to
post
Yes of course they're the same word! I'm just saying I guessed what the last three letters of that word were (for the wrong reason). I like pressing the reset button. It's a much more efficient way of undoing my guesswork :)
comment in response to
post
Actual time 4:07 (it still gives you the time since the last reset). Had an unusual way into this one: wondered if the first and 7th words were gerunds ending in the usual three letters. They aren't but do anyway :)

This one (just about, perhaps arguably) has two grammatical solutions! I got the wrong one first.

My real time was 10:03. Have figured out what's going on: every time I press "RESET" it resets the clock! I reset quite a lot because I find it easier to just start over and remember what was right than how to backtrack.

Not sure they're fun enough to overcome my miserliness :) Also it let me play them at least once so there is probably an easy workaround.

Actually playing the thing is much harder than any of that other stuff so I think you have your priorities right.

I do subscribe to Telegraph Puzzles for the crossword. But they know better than to make you subscribe to the whole newspaper. Crosswords do take some effort to set so I don't mind (yes there are plenty of free ones too but I like the DT: it's easy enough to do every day).

The trap is you thought that pattern was "PEOPLE"? Below says 1:22, but this time I timed it myself as well. A more realistic 8:56 is what I actually spent on it.

Possibly thinking of Freia in Das Rheingold? The Dutchman (clearly an autobiographical character) is perhaps a bit of an off-putting incel as well ๐ To be clear I don't think Wagner's music misogynist *at all*. The opposite. But sometimes easy to get that impression.

Maybe it was the Venus vs Elisabeth stereotypes she didn't like? Sort of a "Madonna Whore Complex" type of thing going on there. Idk anything about Clara but I can imagine some people might find this annoying.

It's possible that nowadays they tend to stick the mikes practically inside the piano instead of in front of it. Not sure. That's what Lord Vinheteiro seems to do on his YouTube videos (I think he is something like a recording engineer).

Is that the difference? Practically everyone seems to play a Steinway these days (although Hewitt sometimes her Fazioli and you can compare her two WTC recordings). Maybe for those 30s recordings the actual pianos were different?

I prefer the sound of all newer recordings because they tend just to be clearer.

No I just live in the moment :) My personal policy on these games is to play them when someone else posts about them, and I feel like it. The only one I do consistently every day is the Telegraph cryptic crossword (old-school but more wit and creativity goes into making it).
