Welcome on BlueSky!

🆕 Following a trial period, we are now reporting all SNSF news on Bluesky! Information shared on this account is in English. 💡 For news in French and German, follow us on this account: bsky.app/profile/did:... ➡️ www.snf.ch/en/Un0gtuyAx...

The SNSF is launching its eleventh call for clinical studies on topics that are outside the industry focus. The programme for investigator initiated clinical trials (IICTs) of the SNSF supports clinical trials on under-researched topics that meet medical as well as social needs.

US President Donald Trump is taking a wrecking ball to science and to international institutions. The global research community must take a stand against these attacks. https://go.nature.com/4kd1vIu

“ERC succeeds because it’s different. Its simple, tailored procedures allow Europe’s best researchers to thrive. Bureaucratic processes designed for other programmes should not be imposed on it.” @marialep.bsky.social spoke up for an independent ERC with a doubled budget today @europarl.europa.eu

We’re hosting @peterskrinjar.bsky.social for a webinar to discuss his latest paper “Have protein co-folding methods moved beyond memorization?”! Join live on Feb 21st at 11 AM ET. Register here: us06web.zoom.us/webinar/regi... Explore Runs N’ Poses on Polaris today: polarishub.io/benchmarks/p...

💡 At a joint press conference, the #SNSF and its ERI partners called on the Federal Council to abandon the planned cuts to #education, #research and #innovation in the "relief package 27", as they would have far-reaching consequences for the #economy and society. ➡️ https://buff.ly/3CTR2AM

Have #AI methods for protein-ligand co-folding moved beyond memorisation and predict really novel leads for #drugdiscovery? Or do we find “more of the same”? This new benchmark lets you find out… ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Welcome, ERC! Looking forward to fruitful discussions about research funding policy and exciting science!

Wow. Last month wasn't just a usual hottest January on record. Despite cool La Niña conditions, it was *even hotter* than last years record-breaking El Niño January! Graph by @hausfath.bsky.social

🌍 Singapore's Ambassador to Switzerland Andrew Toh visited the SNSF offices in Bern last week. He was received by #Research Council President @torstenschwede.bsky.social . 🤝 This visit underscored the longstanding collaboration between Singapore and Switzerland. #international #cooperation

In a great collaboration with @hummerlab.bsky.social and the Kräusslich lab: HIV capsid doesn't break at the NPC; instead, it cracks open the NPC itself! Details in Cell: authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S... @mpibp.bsky.social @uniheidelberg.bsky.social A thread below:

#OpenCall: Quantum – joint call with South Korea As part of the bilateral programmes, the SNSF and the National Research Foundation of Korea are launching a call for Joint #Research Projects in the #quantum domain. Submission deadline: 27 February 2025 For more info ➡ sohub.io/h3kc

What's #new in SNSF project funding from 1 April 2025: 📝If researchers resubmit a revised application, it will no longer be declared as a resubmission. This makes the competition between resubmitted and first-time applications fairer. ➡️ https://buff.ly/408cAkW

📣#OpenCall: Project funding The project funding scheme enables qualified researchers to independently carry out projects on topics and research objectives of their own choosing. Open to all disciplines. 📷 Submission deadline: 1 April 2025, 17:00 CEST. 📌 For more info ➡

📣 Don't miss the deadline! Make sure to submit your proposal of tutorial or workshop for the [BC]2 Basel Computational Biology Conference before time runs out. 📅 Deadline: 14 January 2025 👉 Submit a proposal: https://tinyurl.com/2vxmsf7m 💡 Under the […] [Original post on mstdn.science]

đź“Ł The new Research Council has been elected and will take up its duties from 1 April 2025 under the direction of the Academic Board. @torstenschwede.bsky.social will succeed Matthias Egger as President of the Research Council from 1 January 2025.

A great day for computational structural biology! 2024 Nobel Prize lectures in chemistry by David Baker, Demis Hassabis and John Jumper: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnT1... 🧪🧬

David Baker visits all the Rosetta folks after his Nobel lecture. And photo of all three Chemistry laureates - David Baker, Demis Hassabis, and John Jumper. An honor to be here in Stockholm to see this.

Today, several #NobelPrize Laureates arrive in Stockholm, warmly welcomed by Hans Ellegren. Here we see David Baker stepping off the plane at Arlanda. This week is packed with inspiration, press conferences and lectures, so stay tuned! 🌟 @uofwa.bsky.social @hhmi.bsky.social #Science #AcademicSky

The results of #CASP16 are online, pdf files of the presentations will be made available next Wednesday through the CASP website. The release of talk recordings will follow soon afterwards. Big thanks to all participants for an inspiring conference! 🧪 🧬 predictioncenter.org/casp16/

The 300th (!) installment of Molecule of the Month explores newly-revealed atomic details of one of the wonders of the biomolecular world: the Flagellar Motor pdb101.rcsb.org/motm...

What is the current state of the art in predicting poses and affinity of drug-like ligands bound to a target protein? Next in #CASP16 presentation by assessors. Results for Targets L1000-L5000: predictioncenter.org/casp16/resul...

Conclusion of RNA assessors in #CASP16 - we are still in the “template” phase. Prediction of nucleic acids structure is still challenging for targets without templates, often relying on intuition. No big leap in accuracy since CASP15. AI based methods have not (yet?) made a major difference.

Day 3 of the #CASP16 conference - predictions beyond proteins: What's the state-of-the-art in predicting RNA structures and protein-ligand interactions? How do AI methods perform in these fields? 🧪 🧬

Next at #CASP16 - keynote by David Baker “De novo protein design using deep learning” www.nobelprize.org/prizes/chemi...

Thanks Arne for providing your talk virtually. Looking forward to seeing you tonight at the meeting! #CASP16 🧪 🧬

#CASP16: are we making progress in predicting protein-protein complexes? Not much in general, but …. One method (Kozakov Vajda) shows great improvement in predicting structure of antibody-antigen complexes. 🧪 🧬
