3.) None of this would be relevant if Republicans weren't such utter bastards. If they cared about their constituents, this wouldn't happen. If they cared about America, this wouldn't happen. If they knew the meaning of empathy, this wouldn't happen. They are the biggest ones to blame.

2.) There are, unfortunately, reasons why someone might want to take the bad deal. There were no good options here, and there's no way to tell if this was the better or worse option, given the risks in play. Certainly the more demoralizing option, clearly. But better or worse, none can say.

Saw someone telling people to contact your Representative- y'know, the federal one- to oppose a *Texas STATE bill*. Yeah, my Representative can't do jack fucking shit about that bill because I DON'T LIVE IN TEXAS.

Think carefully and REALISTICALLY about these before posting about things online. Much of the point of these bills is to distract and draw attention, get you riled up about things that'll never happen. Also, please, fuck's sake, only contact the correct legislative body for the bill.

1.) Can the bill be realistically implemented? 2.) Is it possible to get the votes needed? (See that constitutional amendment for a third term thing- that'd take HUGE dem crossover, not happening) 3.) Are there many cosponsors? 4.) Has anyone actually showed support otherwise?

The Public Resistance does everything else, and is everyone else- protestors, people who call their representatives, campaigners, donators, activists, helpers, people who support their communities, and most importantly VOTERS! Every single individual voice coming together to enact change!

One more thing. If you think we need a *few* more firebrands, or something like that, that's fine! That's reasonable! Call and tell 'em! If you think we need EVERYONE to be a firebrand- that's where it becomes a problem.

Will the next three years, ten and a half months be bad? Of course. Never said otherwise. But if we all take action, and build the public resistance together, we CAN make things better. We WILL.

Many of the worst, most organized, most crushing regimes in history were defeated through organized and hopeful resistance, desperate to make the world better even if they may not see it. If you're giving up hope already, you need some history lessons.

I don't think it's necessary to explain more on that one, but I can explain one thing that really doesn't help that one- dooming. Acting like there's no hope, like there's nothing that can be done, like it's all over. It's not. And the only way to lose for good is to give up hope.

So that's the first three taken care of. And that covers... Just about every elected Democratic official and a decent number of other people. Now, for the Public Resistance. Congratulations, it's you! Or, well, it can be. It needs to be. You can be as much a part of it as anyone.

The Quiet Constants also covers every bureaucrat and desk jockey quietly pressuring things towards the dems, supporting democratic causes, pushing towards progress, and throwing as many little wrenches into the plans of the current admin as they can. They're important too.

How long will that last? How many more votes will he be able to push over the line? Time will tell, but if the Quiet Constants of the democratic party weren't quietly and constantly doing their damned jobs, he wouldn't even need to do that. And that's to say nothing of the backroom talks!

In regular congress, they do this in other ways. Trump has to keep personally calling on House members to get them to vote for his pet projects. And Senators. Because the well-organized and respectable Dems keep making a strong enough argument that only a threat from dear leader sways them.

That's not a good ending either. If that had happened, people would be complaining- "so what if they all made some random noise, they just let him speak after! Nobody was left to challenge him on all his lies!" ... Which is why most stayed behind to present opposition.
comment in response to post
We've got Firebrands and Major Actors, what about the Quiet Constants? Let's go back to that all-Firebrand idea for a moment. If all members of congress took the role of Firebrand, they'd ALL get kicked out of the speech. Then Trump gets to finish out all on his own. No opposition.

Every illegal or questionably legal action is getting challenged, so many injunctions and court orders being placed on what's been going on... It's not stopping things in advance, but right now there's nothing Dems can do about that without control of the House or Senate, so we make do.
comment in response to post
Right now, the type of major action we're actually in position to do is... The courts. The courts, the courts, the courts. It's all legal battles. So the AGs are the primary source of Major Actors in this setup. And they're knocking it out of the fucking park.
comment in response to post
The next section contains few to no members of congress- because they're not the ones in positions to take this role. Rather, it's the Major Actors- primarily, the Democratic State Attorneys General. These are the ones taking major action against the administration.

You need a few firebrands- big names, big actions, big voices, leading by calling things out front and center. But if they're ALL firebrands... That's a big problem. A handful of firebrands is plenty. Let's move on to the next one.

What would it gain? I say: Nothing. Less than nothing actually. They'd lose whatever backroom relationships they've been working on to try and make something work, they'd lose independents who oppose that kind of behavior, they'd lose any claim to being the sensible party. Not worth it.

AOC did her bit with staying out and making separate commentary, even going live with opposition views. Al Green got kicked out of the speech because he was causing such a ruckus. But here's the question- if, as some people seem to want, ALL the democrats did this...

1.) The Firebrands. 2.) The Major Actors. 3.) The Quiet Constants. 4.) The Public Resistance. The Firebrands, to start, are the names you hear most often. And we had several of them doing big work last night.

There are four primary components to the resistance that we need right now. Four types of people. I'll go over them in detail, but for now, let's put some names out there, in order of how many you need of each, starting with the smallest.

That article is Politico ragebaiting everyone. There's a couple of Democrats- actual, name-able members of the party, not "a group" that goes soundly unnamed because they know naming them would reveal their irrelevance- who have stated it's bullshit. bsky.app/profile/did:...

There's always something, somewhere, almost every Tuesday. Tomorrow, California's got some state senate and assembly seats up, Connecticut's got a state house seat, Maine's got a state house seat... There's always something, which means there's always ways to help out!
