Malick's earlier works did have a more linear structure, though still very meditative in their pacing and ideas. He kind of lost his way after Tree of Life into more abstract films, but did seem to get back on track with A Hidden Life

They're definitely ones that demand your focus and often require several viewings to fully appreciate the attention to detail that goes into every shot. I've always been partial to Andrei Rublev.
