Yes—its a very confusing situation but they were 2 different projects w/ close connections. Amok Press was Parfrey & Ken Swezey. Amok Books was Brian King & Stuart Swezey (Ken’s brother). But at one point King & Ken Swezey filmed a James Mason interview together.

Saying there has to be a church or doctrine to start Satanism is just tailoring a definition to fit your argument.
And Gilmore was not “founding clergy”
I don’t understand why CoS followers can’t just say “LaVey was the first contemporary satanist and remains the best” and leave it at that.

the romantic satanists aside, there were quite a number of people and groups who were satanists in the prewar era, starting in 1897 with Stanislaw Przybyzewski’s "Die Synagoge des Satan." But they did not establish a something others followed whereas LaVey started what became an unbroken tradition.

sounds like every christian insisting they believe in the "one true religion." There were Satanists before LaVey & while he launched modern Satanism in the postwar era, we should celebrate that satanism has left him & his "philosophy" (mostly plagarisms of discredited ideas) behind.

And 2) you mentioned that I didn’t give activist suggestions. While I didn’t in the book, in fact I have written a guide to just that, which may be interested in.

Most importantly these 4 discovered & promoted Mason & Siege. The book wouldn’t exist would them: full stop. And it’s Siege - not industrial fans - that are the driving ideas behind today’s crop of real & aspiring Neo-Nazi terrorists.

These guys & the American Front all preceded Hammerskins etc by years. In fact a Hammerskins founder blurbed the book & said it was new info to him.
Early industrial bands did not just “subvert” this imagery, it’s clear many has various levels of sympathy

It mostly ends around 2000. I could’ve kept going on but the point was made and there was another 400 pages of other people!

Yes, I was always curious about his adventures in academia. I do know that when he worked on his BA in Denver he studied with a holocaust denier who he adored. I go into this in my book, there’s a whole chapter on him.

Holy shit! Yes everyone I’ve known who met him said he’s very nice in person. No idea he got a Fulbright tho, much less than it was rescinded. I know he’s been to Austria before: to visit Braunau am Inn.
