I guess I had thought more would be in the data deficient category, amazing work done by all of you to get that percent down to such small amounts.

Serious question, applies to other marine fish groups too: the assessed species are those that are fished the most, so I would expect most shark species to have very little fishing pressure or none at all. (Most shark species are obscure and contribute only a tiny amount to total shark biomass.)

Takes like 2 seconds. My favorite thing in Excel (with pivot tables and filters)

You can make that in Excel with conditional formatting...

Hey have you considered writing a piece on why preview pics of scientific articles always show humpback whales instead of sharks? HAVE YOU??? ;)

Fishing reduces the amount of fish in the ocean, even if done sustainably. It especially reduces the proportion of old big fish within a species. Effects on biodiversity are a bit murkier, depends on how you define biodiversity. (No extinctions yet, but could change which species are common.)

Hmmm... most countries have levels that determine overfishing, e.g. in the US fishing mortality greater than FMSY. This can be determined after the fact with a model, regardless of whether catch limits were set. Catch > catch limit does not necessarily result in overfishing either.

Interested to see what people say. I'd generally be wary unless the course is specifically for people who need to verbally answer questions as part of the job. Would be more stressful than written for most students.
