I've found that with a good elastomeric respirator, I can handle tear gas even without sealed goggles.
It sucks, you get red stinging eyes and you might need an occasional rinse but you won't be totally blinded. Tear gas is worse on the breathing than on the eyes.
Lacrosse goggles don't fog up.
