This is by NO means a One-Size-Fits-All piece but I have learned soooo much about reaching out to audiences and being shit-scared to do so. Hopefully my advice and experiences can help other indies with their projects too!

And you should! (OKAY i'm done i think I got emotional bc my audience is very very kind with their feedback and I had a couple really heartfelt comments recently that kinda touched me so)

But also I love what I do?? I love making content people see themselves in? TCM is my first big gaming adventure (I have a TTRPG project under my belt but TCM is my first video game) and hearing so many people's incredibly kind feedback makes me want to tell everyone ELSE that you too can make porn!

I have a lot of opinions as legislation continues to come down on my passions and my livelihood and we live in a time where porn bans are a thinly veiled attack on queer voices and expression. I mean of course I do, I'm queer and I write porn for a living.

NOW to find my next game and hopefully it's not Monster Hunter Wilds and something that already exists in my library because I DONT REALLY have 70$ to throw around. 🫠

My second place favorite thing was the Black Materia sequence after Temple of the Ancients. The physicality of Cloud being drawn to Sephiroth, the pupil dilation, the creepily confident lines delivered by a talented and committed voice actor (I played w jpn audio) was SO delicious.

This is something I've daydreamed about for decades and seeing relationships forged in crisis develop into friendships but also with opposition and friction was so so so special to me.

These clips are so cute! Your laugh is infectious!!! Chapter 2 and 4 have CGs with nudity in them but there's no nude sprites (they look goofy just hanging out over the textbox lmao) 💜

I think the faster I get to putting real words down the easier it is for me to stay out of the weeds. Also learning to write (esp fiction) non-linearly has helped me maintain overall vision and clarity as I get into it. If any of this makes sense lmao

Mostly, a lot of the methods I learned in school were slow and overly structured/felt really tedious. Now I kind of go from brainstorm slop to vague grouping of ideas and just start writing from there. I do a lot of "post" editing too where I connect disparate ideas after I've written most of them.

The games in early access right now, most of the routes are about halfway complete if you wanna take a sneak peek 😉

Ayyyy thanks!! 💜

Thank you so much! I really wanted players to have more say in how the relationship moves without punishing them for holding back (or off entirely). It makes me happy to know it's appreciated! 💜💜💜

It's something I really want to do but currently have no concrete timeline for. I have seen fan translations made for other Ren'py games, however, so that's always a possibility in the interim. 💜

i DID run a ks a while back! Very grateful that supportive fans have helped the game get so far! 💜

ANYWAY i have a very dry classic lit background and did a lot of Campbell/Jungian study in college. Their writings require an unhealthy amount of salt due to racism/sexism but in as much as describing patterns that are useful tools for writing, their structural notes are interesting if nothing else

I actually really enjoy using the Fool's Journey/Major Arcana/Tarot as a stand in for the Hero's Journey too. Both Journeys hit the same beats and narrative divisions, the implied relationships between various arcana adds another interesting layer for me when it comes to building up character arcs.
comment in response to post
From there I start building it into something more structured. 3 Act is a reliable standby but for longer, more character-arc-centered stuff I tend to lean more towards the Hero's Journey while working to support that character arc with interesting external stuff to build up the conflict layers.

ALSO mandatory "I'd throw hands at Joseph Campbell" cause the dude had a lot of stupid af ideas but the pattern of the hero's journey is nevertheless a valuable pattern rooted in western myth- and more importantly- deeply ingrained in modern storytelling.

Mostly 1) your audience recognizes the patterns whether they're aware of this or not so 2) you know what they're expecting to see if you get stuck somewhere. You can use that knowledge to give them what they want or subvert expectations :)
