She asks him what his name is. I’m not clear if that’s a good or bad thing to do, but fyi.

These videos are horrifying but I can’t imagine how much worse it would be if we didn’t have them. Even many anti-ICE would have trouble believing the stories were real or nearly as numerous

For his sake I hope the legal community works like the rest of the Internet and there’s always another main character of the day, but they seem like a population with a long memory…

It was classy. Meanwhile I would’ve been the judge to her left lol

I think I would feel mortified myself for people to see a man making that slip towards me in public on video, especially when I’m supposed to be in a position of authority. She knew everyone would be watching her reaction, and what do you do? Look like a bitch? Or a little girl? No good options

As I said, other contexts. Not oral arguments. So, yeah, definitely can’t come up with anything more charitable in THIS context. Thank you lawyer person

I get you, but it’s unfortunate it wasn’t at least in the context of greeting her or thanking her, but rather it was when contradicting and growing impatient with her. But I’m content to just be very glad I was not him.

He would probably want it known he grew up in NC though, not the Midwest, much as we’d like to claim him

Ok random but I seriously just learned the meaning of the word “barmy” an hour ago, and I’d never heard the word before.
(This is about as close as I get to thinking there is any rhyme or reason to the universe)

Dear lord that’s up there with the number of people who think they would win a fight with a gorilla

It sucks but the important thing is you realized it and were able to extricate yourself. I’ve done similar. But many people can’t face that they were bamboozled and just double down

I honestly don’t know how people can either overlook those, or think they are real. None of us want to admit we were duped, but it happens to the best of us & you just gotta cut your losses. I followed freaking Louise Mensch for awhile during his first term. This is something I have to live with lol

To me, the environmental effects of LLMs are enough to render their usefulness or non-usefulness moot; until they can respond to a prompt and tell me how to vastly reduce them, it’s just not worth it. We have the brainpower and capital to perform these tasks, but 2 deg of warming are a blink away

Well actually, kinda yes—I’ve had four sleep studies done and I have sleep apnea, restless legs, and I hardly ever get into REM sleep. I do use a CPAP, which evidently improves it for like 80% of people, but I’m one of the 20%. So basically they’ve found causes, but not fixable ones

Unfortunately no, I’ve just accepted living with it and that people will just think I’m chronically lazy lol 😭
comment in response to

I was once told by a neurologist that my chronic sleepiness (for example, I fell asleep at my college graduation ceremony) was due to not having a job, and gave me job search tips.
My GP told me sleepiness was a symptom and not a disease. Funny, I thought he worked with symptoms.

Very cute. Just saying thanks for all you do—your account is a balm in our times, and I’m sure it takes a lot of work 🙂

Yeah like our issue with all of this is we’re worried a literal monarchy is going to be established 🙄 and they polled us all what we wanted the slogan to be

I honestly think if I became rich I’d largely continue living the way I do, which is to say, humbly lol I don’t need a boat or a vacation house, and I would probably still use coupons, but being able to throw money at a multitude of causes would be such a balm for this life

And discounting the motivations of the protestors—like oh no these would never be locals with sincere and valid objections organizing, these are just pesky people coming from x miles away trying to stir up trouble for fun

I’m something like 60% of German descent. They immigrated in the 1840s. My other grandfather grew up speaking German, though I’m sure it was different from the standard German of the time

Just being helpful, it’s “cynicism.” A lot of native speakers probably don’t know how to spell it. I’m glad you evidently didn’t mean it sincerely. A lot of us are pretty scared right now
