The swamp flies are cool as well! I stayed at a place with reviewers saying parks should bug spray the area and got a first known photograph of living specimen for a fly on iNat. Common arthropod hater L

I live in the driest state of the driest inhabited continent. There are not a lot of swamps here! The reviews for the swamp campsites that do exist are mostly complaints about there being swamp insects there and like... if you don't want to see swamp insects may I suggest almost any other campsite

Like yes. If there is a functional australian semi arid ecosystem there will, in fact, be lots of flies and snakes

Oh well everything is better than whatever is going on with one of my favourite spider genera that was described in like 1880 with no illustration, and has extremely specific and unique descriptions such as 'grey with oval abdomen'

Idk if it's better for other taxa but I'm having a terrible weird extant crustacean time

like twitter/instagram/bluesky where there's less of that which is a bit irritating as someone who does like, a big drawing every 2 months. I guess I could post wips or random sketches I do but well. I don't really like them usually.

I really see why the biology degree I'm doing has a required scientific illustration topic 😅

showing one of the segments. Or when things are at completely different angles and there's no other equivalently detailed photographs around and it's like is the photograph a weird individual? Is the holotype a weird individual? Has everyone been identifying this wrong?? or just a dodgy figure...
