Transit as an election issue, development standards, U-Pass referenda, and more in our latest news roundup for the last two weeks:

Join the Winter Bike to Work Day organized by the City of Kitchener, on Feb 14th at 7:30am. The ride makes use of protected bike lanes, making it comfortable for those new to winter cycling. The ride starts at Otto St, in front of Centre in the Square and ends at Cafe Pyrus on King St.

Goals

If they’re called GO trains, why are they STOPPED all weekend long in Kitchener?

Protected intersections, bike lane politics, transit project, and more in our latest news roundup:

MTSO was able to attend a webinar on the Toronto-Chicago passenger rail service being planned by VIA Rail Canada and Amtrak. Here’s what we learned:

You should be able to trust the #TTC to show up when you expect it to. Andy Takagi covers our new report about TTC metrics vs. how riders actually experience service. The TTC's bunching reduction pilot is an opportunity for new, transparent metrics. www.thestar.com/news/gta/ttc...

Our news roundup for the last month: GRT cuts averted, Guelph-Cambridge trains, construction costs, and more:

Just thinking about how good GRT's proposed 2025-2030 plan is: extensive frequent network, overnight network, highway express. Ion put us on the map as a small North American region with light rail, and this would do the same for the whole transit system. We'll need to fight to make sure it happens!

Fun Fact: Ever heard of the proposed GO Transit Kitchener-London Line? This line was proposed by the Government of Ontario in 2014 as a way to enhance transit connectivity between these cities after the Toronto-London High Speed Rail Line opened. This line was never built.

2024 Kitchener-Waterloo Metrolinx highlights include: - A completed "key package of work" on the Kitchener GO Line between Georgetown & Kitchener in May (www.metrolinx.com/en/discover/...) - A new 2.6km passing track in Breslau and advanced signal system were put into place on the Kitchener Line

🥳🥳 It's official! 🎉 🎉 All GRT route cuts have been defeated and we get to keep our bus stop garbage bins! To see more information about the votes on service expansion, cuts, and fare increases, check out our thread below!

The Region of Waterloo budget is not final yet, but Councillors fortunately did not have much appetite for cutting any Grand River Transit service. Many more details here:
