This is a situation where we’d be better off with someone like Rick Mercer hosting the episode. Even the old crypt-keeper Murphy would be happy to stake out a nationalist position. Ian imagining he’s being neutral but falling into Trump’s framing is an artifact of the “view from nowhere”.

Non-partisan neutrality is hammered into CBC journalists, mostly from taking ethics seriously, but also as a defence against the constant drumbeat of “liberal bias.” Unfortunately, there moments in time where that doesn’t serve them well, and they find themselves unaccustomed to making common cause.

Trump just fired any top military official whom he thinks might say no to him. Not the best time to entertain his addled fantasies.

Anyone who still thinks Chong is one of the "good ones" hasn't paid attention to what he's actually been saying for a long time now.

This. There is no word you can use instead that they will not turn into a pejorative. As @alexandraerin.com put it, you can’t withhold ammunition from the bullet factory. Stick to a term and *make* it positive.

Talking about it is one thing, framing it the way you have is another. DON’T START BY IMPLYING IT’S A THING THAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN. Trump is talking about using force—economic or otherwise—to grab our resources, and is mocking our public officials while he does it. DO NOT play along! This isn’t hard

Canada’s banking regs saved us from the worst of it, but I remember an anecdote about a CEO (ScotiaBank, maybe?) repeatedly asking where the value was in subprime mortgages. Never got a satisfactory answer, so refused to even entertain the notion.

I have to say, it does simplify things to have multiple shady dealings and scandals all tie back to the same businessman.

Oh, don’t use that example! I think Ali is using his rope-a-dope strategy and ends up winning that fight 😬

You’re probably right—it’s been years since I saw it, but the lake was the point of the gag 😄

Between this and the pagers, secure, chain-of-custody supply chains have become mandatory defensive measures in 21st century warfare.

Management and execs always fall apart when you ask them specifics: What do they mean by "productivity"? How is it measured? How is it enhanced when you can't even give your workers desks? Most work on digital publications: Why do they need to be in the office??
