Rennie is the lead character but Sean is the literal embodiment for the kid that isn't sure what he wants in life and is being pushed and pulled in two directions.
Sean is supposed to tow the line and follow in his dad's footsteps, and Jason being the actual embodiment of the dangers in the world

So many youth flock to New York because it's the city of dreams, and "if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere ". And so many have to come crashing down to earth with reality sets in and decimates so many of that youth leaving them with absolutely nothing.
