Well done Australia

ACEM training applications open Monday I will be applying in round 1. Also applying for recognition of prior learning (for UK folks it’s like a CESR application) trying to show equivalency between U.K. and Australia. Hopefully I get into training and some RoPL for my U.K. MRCEM and time. 🤞🤞🤞

Hopefully Australia follows Canada’s example post Trump and not the UK’s with right wing and far right nut jobs like Reform. Glad to be away from the UK

Many of those who comment on the NHS have kicked up a stink about new top appointments (advisors, the DHSC PS, The NHSE chair, the NHSE CEO and many others)...

Well staying up for that bore draw wasn’t worth it. But the drop off is bad for both teams. Hopefully we can same how win the Europa League #mufc

an idle thought I've had at the back of my head for a while is that a lot of white collar/middle class jobs used to be legitimately fun and/or intellectually stimulating and/or ludicrously well paid and now they're few or none of those things, and we don't talk about that at all

This is how my views compare with the election candidates in the upcoming Australian election according to @VoteCompass. Try it for yourself! #AusPol #AusVotes share.votecompass.com/PR5l4oMvL7FO... If I could vote

Now at the airport waiting for my flight to Brisbane for the 2 day #ACEM and EMF research symposium. Will be good to catch up with some colleagues, meet new people, network and get #research inspiration as I develop in my role as ED research registrar at Royal Perth Hospital

My latest column, on why NHS England got abolished and what it means, is going outside the paywall for an hour or two. If you’d enjoy a weekly column on what’s happening in NHS policy and politics and what it means, why not subscribe? www.healthpolicyinsight.com/cowpers-cut-...

As we're all trying to read the tea leaves of health policy in the month ahead, an EXCELLENT analysis from Siva Andaciva at King's Fund to help- well worth the read: www.kingsfund.org.uk/insight-and-...

Great news for Manchester

Family reunited in Perth, WA

Nala is home and the family are all back together after a year

Excellent news

Finally about to be reunited as a family. Husband has been in Perth for a couple of weeks. Nala our dog was released from quarantine in Melbourne today. Now it’s a 5 day drive for them back to Perth. Can’t wait to see her it’s been 9 months.

Late last year a report set out serious governance failures at the Royal College of Physicians of London - we wrote about it here. It’s now abundantly clear that things are even worse now. If you are voting in the current elections, please reflect on this. www.bmj.com/content/386/...

I'm sorry but this makes my blood boil. Why another review?? Just fix specialty training numbers and competition ratios, fix the lack of parking, hot food at night, and rest spaces, don't start rotations on a run of nights..oh and value resident doctors like part of the team. What else did I miss?

A few thoughts on where we stand after the opening night of Trump does Ukraine. The first glimpse of substance from Hegseth suggests huge concessions will be demanded from Kyiv with no sign of similar pressure on Moscow - rather the reverse, with Trump running hard after Putin. My conclusion? 1/7

But Biden… Yep anyone expect Trump to not be close to Bibi and Israel? Ridiculous anyone thought this would go another way

Started as an ED research registrar today at Royal Perth Hospital. I’ll be working 50:50 clinical and research. Can’t wait to get started. I’ll be focusing on major trauma in older patients supervised by Prof Fatovich.

In 50 years worth of inquiries into catastrophic failures in healthcare the normalisation of poor care features greatly. People then ask how this happens. This is how it happens. No red line.

Excellent news from @anaesunited.bsky.social - first success in their quest to hold the GMC to account for its failures to protect patient safety (its supposed raison d'etre) in the botched introduction of associate roles in NHS. If you can contribute to their crowdfunder, please do (link below)

Like thousands of other UK ED staff I’m heading into a shift in a Trust that has declared a critical incident. I’ve got a flask of tea, taken a (prescribed) propranolol, will go in & do my best but also remember I can only do what I can do, and I can’t fix a system that was destroyed by the Tories
