Jason Carroll of @cnn.com was detained by LAPD while live on air and told to leave, all of which violates CA Penal Code 409.7.
Their security WAS arrested, even though they are also protected by law as "duly authorized representatives" of the media. I've been in touch with LAPD and Mayor's office.

That's a very good point. But my personal experience and gut feeling (I'll be surprised but not upset if proved wrong) is that this is one of those traits deeply embedded in one's personal character. It won't be easy to change even if it's possible.
