Happy to share my latest, open-access article in International Migration! 📢 I introduce a three-level game framework to migration diplomacy through an in-depth look at the 2020 Greek-Turkish border crisis. Also included: a first-ever video abstract (be kind!). Read here: doi.org/10.1111/imig...

A copyedited preprint of my paper "Can States Resist Migration Blackmail While Protecting Migrants?", forthcoming in Journal of Ethics & Social Philosophy, is now available here: drive.google.com/file/d/1UIRe...

Trump's tariffs are part of the wider phenomenon of Hardball Migration Diplomacy. This is not new. Trump used threats in his first term. And the EU, Bush, and Obama also used visa sanctions and threats to get states to cooperate on deportations and other migration policies.

No less than six (!) PhD scholarships announced at our fantastic department. 2 are open calls for anyone (+1 open call for Danish MA’s) and 1 is reserved for Turkish Studies in our Mid East Section. Please spread the word! employment.ku.dk/phd/?show=16...

A lesson from Syria on refugee protection: “The recent escalation of violence in Aleppo and elsewhere proves that a long, unresolved, simmering conflict can erupt into full hostilities, a caution against premature refugee returns.” My thoughts on repatriating refugees: www.hrw.org/news/2024/12...

👇 New article in International Affairs where we theoretically dissect and map where and how power operates in the governance of international migration – co-authored with @tsourapas.bsky.social doi.org/10.1093/ia/i...

I am very proud of our journal's transition to triple-blind review! 🎉 We aim to tackle status bias and support equity in publishing by ensuring that under-represented and minority scholars are evaluated based solely on their work. Removing author names and affiliations is a major step forward.

BLUESKY MEGA-THREAD Altmetric is thrilled and also LITERALLY RELIEVED to officially announce: We are now tracking research attention as it happens on Bluesky! We have been picking up posts on the site since late Oct. Our team is on Bluesky all day answering questions. Let's get into it!

The ever changing light is what makes Patagonia so very special. In Torres del Paine, a spot lit iceberg is dwarfed by mountains in the shade, except the jagged summit, bathed in the warm afternoon sun. 📷🦋 #photography #nature #landscape #bluesky #sunset #naturephotography #landscapephotography

Bluesky's firehose is a treasure trove of public data for researchers and developers, and it's completely free. Check out our developer docs: docs.bsky.app

Wow. Here is one to brighten up your morning. The first images of the restored interior of Notre Dame cathedral. Breathtaking. In just five years France did it

Finland is cited here as an example of an EU country using "coercive migration diplomacy" and "negative conditionality in cross-sectoral approach". Fair enough as the government just cancelled its development aid programme for Somalia (including support for improving the health of girls and women).

Thrilled to see the OECD & EMN publish this in-depth report on migration diplomacy, drawing on concepts and frameworks I’ve worked on over the years. Essential reading for those interested in migration, policy & international relations. 🔗 shorturl.at/lVPhk #MigrationDiplomacy #migcitsky #Migration
