Estamos juntos! O docs eu acho super frustrante, me perco... Acho que é o costume com o word. Eu ouvi falar no latex no doutorado de um amigo da física, não conheço ninguém da minha área que use (ou saiba o que é)

So don't be fooled. The gesture was not a Roman salute in ancient times and today it represents fascism/Nazism/Falangism.

These groups believe that the gesture is from ancient Rome, for them Rome is an idealized model of power and the glorious conquest of the other.

From there, it was a short step to cinema and it soon became consolidated as "something from ancient Rome". But do you know who actually uses this gesture? Nazi, fascist and Falangist movements.

And why do we associate the two things? It was probably in the 18th century that the gesture began to be used in plays to represent Rome and it became popular. It was during this period that it also began to appear in paintings.

Oh, but Tupá, the absence of evidence is not proof that it didn't exist. True, but if it were a common gesture of greeting, wouldn't it appear somewhere?

We have zero evidence that the gesture was practiced in Rome. It doesn't appear in sculptures, mosaics, paintings, or text.

This is a common excuse to justify the use of the Nazi gesture in today's world, but does it make sense? The answer is simple: no! But let me elaborate a little.
