Average dude. Trying to interact with normal people and to find out about the world. Not believing in conspiracy theories. Opposing aggression and extremism. Nothing spectacular.

This shows complete and gratuitous lack of human solidarity. Using laughing faces when innocent people died.

Yes, I hear lots of people saying Russia is weak, it cannot even beat Ukraine. Very difficult to explain the huge price paid by Ukrainians in blood and destruction. Russia is a danger to us all, and we must make this evil visible.

Look at the range for land attack, 2.500 km. You are free to use other sources of info, of course

Try to have some cities destroyed, then make comparisons. America has high prices, that's why it's paying more in nominal terms, but Vietnam lost more than the US.

Just look at the price paid by Ukraine, hundreds ot thousands of casualties, a huge area destroyed. And Russia accepts huge losses, just to conquer. Not sure European countries would want to pay this price. Better to deter Russia. Spain is wealthy and can pay its part.

Yeah, sure, but only for one week. Russia said it can fight for 20 years, and they have the means, their economy is on war footing and they spend 8% of GDP. I wonder what they are preparing for.

Again, hundreds of thousands of people died and millions were wounded. Do you suggest mega-rich European countries should send people to their deaths, instead of spending some fucking money to deter Russia?

Hundreds of the missiles that hit Ukraine could have been armed with nuclear warheads. And Ukraine is fighting for 3.5 years, without being hit with nukes.

Russia invaded Ukraine 3.5 years ago. It couldn't defeat Ukraine, but hundreds of Ukrainians are dying every day to defend against Russia. And UA cities are bombed every night, hundreds of missiles. Do you think Spanish factories would be spared in a war? Missiles from Kaliningrad can easily hit.

Ok, but this is not solidarity. And a country that is rich, but has a weak army, may be plundered by a stronger enemy, even if it is far away.

The main goal of this commitment is to show unity, to deter Russia, and to prevent a war. Cracks in an alliance signal weakness and invite attack, which can be repelled with great losses.

I got it, Spain is the only country that cannot pay.

Yes, lots of people from Spain saying they will not be bullied by Trump to spend more, even if some agree that Europe should not rely on the US. They don't seem to see the refusal to spend as a lack of solidarity with other EU members, but as a protest against Trump.

Yes, it was called a non-aggression pact, but Nazi Germany and the USSR divided eastern Europe into spheres of influence and agreed to colaborate economically and militarily. Not quite an alliance, agree, but a strategic partnership. And the USSR offered only limited help to Spanish Republicans.

After Trump's statements about regime change in Iran, most probably Bibi coopted him for the long run, and the self-congratulation vibe around him will only amplify his detachment from reality and push him on the "just one more strike" path

Too early to assess the damages, not even the Iranian knows the exact situation. The attacks can be an attempt to prevent repairs and rescue work

Can you be polite? I know Romanians carried out massacres and committed war crimes, not only in Iasi, but in Odessa and in other places. This was when Romania was under a fascist dictator. And it paid a harsh price. We also had communist dictators and people died, too. I'm not keen of any extreme

Yeah! This was before the USSR becoming an ally of Hitler? Stalin as a defender of the people, that's quite a stretch. Not Even the Russians believe it, they only like that Stalin expanded the empire and projected fear. Putin just said that, where the Russian soldier steps, it's Russia.

The only guarantee that Europe can defend against Russia, without the US, is strong armies at national level and solidarity. And European nuclear deterrence.
comment in response to

Yes, this is to be appreciated. But it's not enough to deter Russia. A strong army and alliance are needed to prevent a war, and this is the main goal of today's efforts

I'm sure Stalin wept when the Republicans were defeated. Then, he allied with Hitler, to divide Eastern Europe, but this was ok, it was only geopolitics, not love.

I think Russia (it was the USSR at that time) was involved in a war in Spain, some time ago.

So, spend money on Spain's army, this is what the EU asked for

Russia is a big threat to Europe, not the US. Europe should spend because it needs to, not because of Trump.

Iran also needs the facilities to transform metallic uranium into gas and back into metal. And the explosives to collapse the core of a bomb. And needs to pair the bomb with a missile, g-force at launching is huge. And the scientists. It was a hard blow, but they can still try a bomb.

Poland gave lots of old weapons to Ukraine, and they are purchasing new kit. If these new weapons are the right sort for a future war, this is debatable. And nobody said Spain should not spend on the right types of weapons, it will make Spain stronger

Spain received loads of money from the EU since 1986 and during the financial crisis, this is what the post says. Now, when it's time to play its part, it says it's hard.

3.5% is envisaged directly for defense, while 1.5% is for infrastructure related to defense. Poland and the Baltics are above that target, so it can be done. Maybe Spain should receive less money from the EU in the future, because nobody should pay for a country that is not doing its part.
