Heading home from the Scottish Archives Day event at the Mitchell Library. Good to learn more about the Your Scottish Archives portal. The updated Knowledge Base is a fabulous resource for family and local historians. If you haven't already, go take a look.

📣 Tomorrow night! Our #OnePlaceStudies webinar features contributions from: ✪ Alexandra Gilbert—From a “Sainsbury’s bag” to an OPS ✪ Ann Simcock—Joining the dots… ✪ Steve Pickthall—How not to do a family re-constitution ✪ Peter Burnhill—Joined in Time – 1819 Cohort Study Studies | Events | Join Us

A date for the diary. Any other genealogists planning to attend?

A moving account. Worth a minute or two of anyone's time. #ww1 #WeRememberThem

Thankful for that 3m of bright yellow ethernet cable I've been holding on to just in case... yesterday's power surges seem to have taken out the wifi but I am at least up and running.

What treasure... a little glass window into the past! By coincidence, on Friday I was researching a family that lived at 62 Argyll Street in the 1890s. The story of this little bottle adds a bit of colour to the picture of their life there at that time. #LocalHistoryIsFamilyHistory

GET INVOLVED! The ever-brilliant National Archives have made some of the #Railway company accident records available for transcription. Could YOU help with a page or two? A brilliant way to get involved with #Railway200! Find out more here - & thanks!

Today I will mostly be adding sourced profiles to #WikiTree as part of #ConnectAThonXIII It's an opportunity to build out some of the trees for my #OnePlaceStudy. Aiming for 200 outline profiles over the course of the next 72 hours. I can add detail at a later date.

A timely reminder to pick up this lovely book again, reread this month's offering and reabsorb its wisdom. And then go for a walk. #NatureMendsUs

Annie Rudd was Canada's Silver Cross Mother in 1974. I'd like to know if the man pictured with her is her husband Tom Rudd. He served with the RFA and was awarded a Military Medal in #WW1. Can any medal experts make out enough detail in this blurry photo to confirm or deny? #ww1medals #ww1historians

A man walks towards the steelworks in Hartlepool in 1963 by Don McCullin. Industrial scenes like this had a grim majesty to them. I love everything about this photo, it is a masterful capture of a bygone age.

Busy with everything except #OnePlaceStudies at the moment, it seems! Can't wait for 26th December, when I can relax and do my own thing for a few days... #OnePlaceWednesday

Grear story! One for you, @rwldproject.bsky.social

Ohhh! In a parallel universe, perhaps... It's a great opportunity for someone, for sure, and it will be interesting to see how it unfolds.

Jumping on the #SixGenerations bandwagon. Only one of my 3x ggps was actually born in my #OnePlaceStudy parishes of #WestwardAndBoltons, but all those highlighted in bold spent a significant part of their lives there.

Shadows towards beauty's end. This door arrested my journey for a few moments today in Haslingden, Lancashire - love the light, shade and patina on this. Am grateful for these things so I thought I'd share it with you.

Land army girls in uniform, one with a pitchfork and another carrying a lamb …detail from Bury War Memorial, a large bronze bas relief depicting those who had done their bit for the war effort during #WW1 #LancashireDay #WomensHistory www.womenslandarmy.co.uk/tag/lancashi...

Lidar view of Old Carlisle Roman fort (Maglona), which lies just inside Westward parish. There are stone quarries dating back to the Roman period nearby, and some of the older farm buildings in the area incorporate Roman stonework. #OnePlaceWednesday #WestwardAndBoltons #lidar

We might not have photos of our ancestors at work, but photojournalism from the period can offer valuable insight into their working lives. Photos can also be good conversation starters with older relatives... put the kettle on, get your voice recording app ready and get chatting! #FamilyHistory

For those interested in researching coal mining communities in Scotland from the mid-nineteeth century to the 1920s. #housing #FamilyHistory #genealogy #ScottishIndexes thepastandotherplaces.wordpress.com/housing-the-...

Such an inspiring talk on social network analysis from @joesaunders1.bsky.social. Head now buzzing with ideas. Like I don't have enough to do already! #OPSconf2024

Snow day! Slow cooker on, coffee & mince pies at the ready... gearing up for a cosy afternoon of talks, chat & crochet at @oneplacestudies.bsky.social's online conference. It's been a difficult week here so I'm really looking forward to some me time. See you there? #OPSConf2024
