Why they really shuttered CFPB paulkrugman.substack.com/p/springtime...

On those new Trump tariffs: I don't think people realize how narrow they are. They're ugly and stupid, but also arguably an attempt to save face after he lost his nerve on broad tariffs

Gaza Rivier By Andre Carrilho

The nation lets out a sigh of relief as the pressing issues of our time are finally addressed.

Imagine you were the richest man in the world. You could have anything you wanted, go anywhere you wished, do whatever took you fancy. How would you spend your weekend? Depriving the poorest people in the world of food and healthcare and boasting about it?

Precies wat oud minister Rory Stewart zegt.

Stupid on multiple levels. Delaying full tariffs by a few months will make no difference to the inflation impact, but would set off a mad rush of imports to beat the deadline

Fact-checking is not censorship. Requesting evidence is not censorship. Refuting falsehoods is not censorship. Stopping a lie from travelling halfway round the world before the truth has got its boots on is not censorship. But Zuckerberg's grovelling to Trump will sure as hell lead to censorship.

A very telling conversation at the press conference between a journalist and Director General of Finland's police Ilkka Koskimaki "Have you contacted the Russian authorities about this [damaged Estlink-2 power cable]?" "No." "When will you be?" "We will not."

There are 365 days until Christmas and people already have their lights up! Unbelievable.

My trolls love a cognitive dissonance, so here's their latest: 1 Russia is nice. It would never shoot an airliner, stop it landing, jam its navigation & send it out to sea in hope it sinks, leaving no evidence. 2 Russia will also end humanity with nukes if we don't appease it.

This one wins

Love it when bookshops or libraries arrange their books appropriately...

The main argument for a Strategic BItcoin Reserve seems to be that Bitcoin holders worry about an impending shortage of greater fools and need the US government to act as the greatest fool of last resort.

Anybody with me?

Spent the day talking to Europeans, and nobody can think of any precedent for what Musk just did to the US Congress. There is no businessman with that much power, the power to stop a routine spending bill, anywhere else in the democratic world.
