It was not just Mumbai, but the whole country recorded a warm Feb. Highest mean and minimum temperature. 2nd highest maximum.

WOW, thank you all for the outpouring of support. Know that I am reading all of them & want to thank everyone individually. Also, I did decide to share on Twitter/X (only to raise attention for the NOAA community)... and omg, the hate on that website is shocking. Never again. Truly a horrific space

A hot month comes to end. 27.16C - the mean temperature recorded at Mumbai (Santacruz) in Feb. It is 2.26C above the 1991-2020 climatological mean. Monthly records of maximum: 5th: 38.7C on Feb 25 7th: 38.5C on Feb 26 9th: 38.4C on Feb 24 Daily temps: (shades represent departure from daily avg)

Summers going to be terrible in most of the country.

Mumbai (Colaba) recorded a minimum temperature of 24.3C today which ties as the 4th warmest Feb night with Feb 18, 1999.

I get asked all the time "why is the European weather model better than the American?". Today's a good start.

World rainfall records at risk? Foc-Foc, La Réunion (elev. 2,290m or 7,513’) holds the record for 12 hours: 1.144m (45”) and 24 hours: 1.825m (71.8”), Jan. 7-8, 1966, during Cyclone Denise (low-end tropical storm with 40 mph winds). #Garance is expected to hit as a Cat 3; HAFS-A model says a Cat 4.

Air quality is awful today 🤧

🚨 2024 YR4 asteroid impact update! New observations conducted with our VLT & facilities around the world have all but ruled out an impact of the #asteroid with our planet. After the latest observations, the odds of impact dropped to nearly zero. Read more: www.eso.org/public/news/... 🧪🔭

The maximum temperature at Mumbai (Santacruz) reached 38.7C today. It is the 5th hottest Feb day beating 38.6C of Feb 26, 2017.

Current chance of asteroid 2024 YR4 impacting Earth is only 0.002% blogs.esa.int/rocketscienc...

Global surface temperature anomalies have fallen a bit in recent weeks, making it very likely that February will not set a new record after a record January. However, its still on track to be the 3rd warmest at 1.56C above preindustrial levels in ERA5.

38.4C :- the maximum temperature recorded at Mumbai (Santacruz) today. It ties with Feb 28, 2020 as the 6th hottest temperature in February.

Is there any other elected leader on the planet so thoroughly living up to Kennedy’s “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.”

36C :- Mumbai (Santacruz) average max temperature for the last 10 days. This 4.3C above average and current conditions will continue till at least the end of the month. It is a 'long heatwave' that is not breaking monthly records. Just days and days of hot weather. Data: IMD

Two consecutive days of 37C+ (more than 5C above normal) max. IMD should declare a heat wave warning in Mumbai.

Panjim, Goa recorded 25.2C which is the 2nd hottest Feb night and only 0.1C from the hottest. The station was established in 1860.

Temp still 30 at 11:30 After a hot day, a warm night on the cards too.

I like home-made butter on bread and a generous sprinkling of sugar. There is a bit of Dutch in me too.

☄️ 🔭 The impact probability of asteroid 2024 YR4 has dropped from 2.8% to 0.16%. Thanks to new observations, Earth is now at the edge of our shrinking ‘uncertainty window.’ If this trend continues, the risk may soon reach 0%.

"... like a bunch of dominos falling over these icecliffs just topple. We've seen that in Jakobshavn glacier... these immense ice cliffs 30km long just BOOM - if that really plays out at large scale around Antarctica we're grossly underestimating the amount of sea level rise" @timnaish.bsky.social

Some good news: looks like the chance of impact from 2024 YR4 has dropped.

2032 is still a long way and a 3.1% chance while the highest ever is still hard to get convinced of the threat. But seeing Mumbai in one of the major cities in the strike zones is a bit unnerving.

🧪⚒️ This morning, people in New Delhi, India felt shaking one person described as "intense and scary." It was a M4.2 earthquake. While not huge, it occurred directly below the city. In fact, an unusual number of earthquakes have been recorded around New Delhi over the last decades. 1/

Millions may have felt these two light earthquakes near Delhi and Patna.

See that bright, glowing object with a tail? That's not a comet. That's the planet Mercury.

Remember the M6 quake in Ethiopia a few days ago? The one with an unusual moment tensor? Turns out that there was a drop in the caldera floor around the same time, consistent with the CLVD moment tensor. Love it when volcanoes are well-behaved.
