The Crescent Nebula, or Caldwell 27. Due to ASI technical difficulties I was only able to get about 2 hours of data. Shot with my new RC 8 Aperatura Carbonstar! It’s a beast to collimate but I’m getting the hang of it. #astrophotography #astronomy @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

Test exposure from tonight. The stars off to the right are pretty smeared, but so far it’s already looking promising

Spent 2 hours working on collimation, think I finally got it. I’ll post results once I’m done processing this test target.

The grind continues

For a short trip yes! But anything longer than a few days would be a hard no; I wouldn’t want to deal with the muscle degradation that occurs with extended stays in space.

This Newtonian imaging stuff is kicking my butt 😭 I bench collimate it and it looks terrible

I wonder if things are truly better in New Zealand or if I’m just having a grass-is-always-greener moment

FINALLY

The Pinwheel Galaxy, captured with 5 hours of exposures. I think this is an improvement from an earlier attempt this year. 📷ASI2600MC Air 🔭WO Fluostar 132 #astrophotography #photography #astronomy

Update: High Point says they have it want to ship it. I already paid back I ordered, but now they’re saying I didn’t and asking me to pay again. I checked my records and I definitely paid for it back then, so I’m a bit upset at the situation. I hope no one else is experiencing something similar

I’m hoping that when I someday have a house I can invest in a large SCT that I can wheel outside. I’d like to do some more serious planetary photography. I tried the carrying out 100 lbs of awkward gear up and down flights of stairs thing and it’s just not worth.

The RC 8” telescope I ordered back in February was *supposed* to ship by the end of the month. By the time I get it galaxy season will be over 😭

I don’t talk about it too much here, but I also stream on Twitch as a vtuber. I play a variety of games, and will gladly play or talk with anyone who drops by. I’m working on setting up a way to stream astrophoto related things. Drop by sometime! twitch.tv/thesmartestw...

I just saw a listing for a used camera with a listed price higher than buying new. Cmon guys.

The Whirlpool galaxy, or Messier 51. I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but I'm very excited regardless to share. It was my personal goal this spring to get this one photographed. 🔭WO Flurostar 132 📷ASI2600MC Air #astrophotography #photography #astronomy #space @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

I'm excited to report the Duo does in fact perform very well. It guided consistently at 0.8 throughout the night. I only had to reject a handful of frames due to the moon coming out: the rest looked amazing. The camera itself did very well too.

The Iris Nebula, or NGC 2073 This one was a bit of a challenge on the processing front, as I've never shot in monochrome nor shot a dusty nebula like this before. I think I can improve in the future 🔭Apertura 75Q 📷ASI2600MM Duo #astrophotography #photography #astronomy @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

It’s time to test the dual rig setup. Drove out to some dark skies to make the most of it.
