We are extremely pleased to announce that we have been awarded $45,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts to support @twolinespress.bsky.social ! This grant will allow the press to publish works from underrepresented voices and bring inventive contemporary translations to new audiences.

Like Giovana Madalosso’s tense & immersive THE TOKYO SUITE, these titles tell stories from multiple, sometimes unreliable viewpoints; subtly (or not-so-subtly) unwind knots of class and gender; and keep pages turning with high-stakes suspense. Check out our latest #ReadAlikes now: bit.ly/40dbtjJ

Come visit Two Lines Press at the MLA conference today! You'll find us at booth 403. Please drop by and check out our books!

So my list of 2024's best CEE-region transated fiction would kick off with Croatian Damir Karakaš's Celebration (publ. @twolinespress.bsky.social), a deeply nuanced and disarmingly lyrical exploration of the links between harsh landscape, rural poverty, emotional damage and political extremes.

@wwborders.bsky.social best books of 2024 Includes titles from @charcopress.com, @twolinespress.bsky.social and @openletterbooks.bsky.social, and looks ahead to forthcoming titles from @haymarketbooks.org, @groveatlantic.bsky.social and New Directions! wordswithoutborders.org/read/article...

It’s a STARRED REVIEW from Publishers Weekly type of day. Excellent to see this early coverage of UNUSUAL FRAGMENTS, forthcoming this February from Calico! “Wonderful and provocative. For fans of contemporary Japanese fiction, it’s a must-read.” www.publishersweekly.com/9781949641752

My best horror of 2024 list is up at @nytimes.com! This list could’ve easily been 100 books long. What a year. Anyway, free article, so feel free to share! www.nytimes.com/2024/12/07/b...

Two of our 2024 titles—the “excellent” WOODWORM and THROUGH THE NIGHT LIKE A SNAKE, “a sweeping look at what is happening in the rich world of Latin American speculative fiction”—are included on @gabino.bsky.social’s end-of-year horror list for @nytimes.com! 💀 Dead happy about it, too 💀

I 👀 CROSS STITCH I 👀 IXELLES I 🧡 @wwborders.bsky.social!

Thrilled to see Woodworm by Layla Martinez (trans. by Sophie Hughes & Annie McDermott) published by @twolinespress.bsky.social here!

Over at Asymptote, critic Robert Allen Papinchak’s writing sings of CELEBRATION: ”[The] translation is exemplary…Karakaš’s original language lends itself to vivid descriptions, figurative imagery, and crisp exchanges.” www.asymptotejournal.com/blog/2024/12...

“Like language and translation itself, Romania is a land of multitudes.” Read a fantastic consideration of CIGARETTES UNTIL TOMORROW: ROMANIAN POETRY, new in our Calico series, over at Full Stop: www.full-stop.net/2024/11/29/r...

Night ride by bike to Green Apple last night to hear Anita Felicelli on her new book How We Know Our Time Travelers. Finally met [Name of Author]. New San Franciscan Bruno Lloret in attendance too. Thought I'd share these pages from his novel Nancy, tr. Ellen Jones, from @twolinespress.bsky.social:

"Spirited prose, microscopic attention to character and environment"; praise for Damir Karakaš's haunting landscape-and-history novel Celebration (publ. @twolinespress.bsky.social) from Robert Allen Papinchak at Asymptote www.asymptotejournal.com/blog/2024/12...

You don't get poetry reviews of this depth, much less poetry collections, all too often. Big thanks to Full Stop for this thoughtful consideration of CIGS UNTIL TOMORROW. “A collective portrait of life in modern society: the mundane, the barbarous, the joyous.” www.full-stop.net/2024/11/29/r...

Black Friday? Cyber Monday? TRANSLATION TUESDAY. Take 30% off all books now through 12/18! Free shipping on orders of $50+. www.catranslation.org/books/#displ...

Coming soon... ❤️

Daily this December I'm gonna try to post something about a book I read and liked this year. Unsettling, disgusting, fun as hell. Gisler's debut, About Uncle, from the always trusty @twolinespress.bsky.social. "The more you look into the distance the more the horizon blurs into the sea."

Starting Cross Stitch by Jazmina Barrera, translated from the Spanish by Christina MacSweeney. What is women’s work, to what extent is it relegation, sanctioned retreat, forms of hidden language, etcetera? I’ve been looking forward to this especially since I loved On Lighthouses.

“A book that hides its eeriness in poetry, coming around corners with sharpened edges and precise screams.” Big thank you to Bex at Books Are Magic for this great line about @elviranavarro.bsky.social’s forthcoming THE VOICES OF ADRIANA (tr. by Christina MacSweeney). In stores 2/19/2025.

Friends of literary translations, stock up on some of the best books of the year—from Layla Martínez, Johannes Anyuru, Wolfgang Hilbig, Pirkko Saisio, and more—with the TLP Holiday Sale. 30% off all books! Free shipping after you spend $50 (easy enough). www.catranslation.org/books/#displ...

✨ @twolinespress.bsky.social is having a holiday sale! I still have several to read, but these are a couple favorites.

"Red is no color for dreams." Thought I was winding down with the Monday evening sleepies, but this from @twolinespress.bsky.social has kept me sitting up.

Publisher of the favorite author of the person who actually pulls off a mustache.

qr.link/pH4n9I So, I’m a subscriber to Two Lines Press, and this month’s subscription is a book by Johannes Anyuru and it came with a sticker that resembled a CDR and had a QR code at the center, which linked to this. I listened, and wow. This book sounds like it’s going to be very good

I'm currently reading the short story collection Unusual Fragments in the first story "The Hole in the Sky" by Nobuko Takagi; translated by Philip Price a young storm chaser and a woman in her forties meet during a typhoon. Due out from Two Lines/Calico Press in March

I'm currently reading Cigarettes Until Dark a collection of poetry from Romania published by Calico/ Two Lines Press. Read poetry and stay hydrated.

Milkweed and Transit and Two Lines and Graywolf, Alice James and (others to make the lines scan) Dorothy Project and Sarabande, these are a few of my favorite publishers. #AWP 📚 @transitbooks.bsky.social @dorothyproject.bsky.social @sarabandebooks.bsky.social @categoryofoutcast.bsky.social
