🚨 Public health data disappeared. We’re restoring it. 🚨 RestoredCDC.org preserves unaltered CDC content after key pages were removed or changed without notice. Public data belongs to all of us. 🔗 RestoredCDC.org #PublicHealth #ScienceTransparency #RestoredCDC

A whole host of overpaid consultants and talking heads told them not to do the right thing and they still chose to do the right thing, so I'd even go a step further and encourage people to contact Senators who opposed this measure (SB 9) and thank them for standing by trans people and our families

Teach others.

Leading Democrats have almost completely ignored Trump's efforts to wipe trans people off the face of the earth. www.discourseblog.com/p/democrats-...

Your regular reminder that the US air & water pollution laws passed in the 60s & 70s -- and the elaborate federal bureaucracy created to administer them -- constitute one of the most successful gov't interventions in history. WILDLY successful. The envy of the world.

The Grammy Award-winning artist and educator had shared an ALS diagnosis in 2022. She was best known for ballads such as "Killing Me Softly With His Song" and "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face."

Someone said that they wanted to see the BD-1 Naked model textured. It’s already been done. It was named Assembly in the Survivor menu. We had the low poly outsourced. Kurt Klockau set up the material masks for customization. youtu.be/yhvV-4-GQjY?... #art #gamedev #starwars #jedisurvivor

My wife was laid off today by EA. She’s an awesome video game producer with more than two decades of experience. If anyone is in need or knows of anyone in need of a producer please DM me. Greatly appreciate any leads.

Oh boy, the US is just all on the struggle bus now huh?

Whoa. This is really big and really good. Hey, @thelibraryces.bsky.social!

Reposting just to say "7-week sabbatical leave every 5 years" is an absolutely killer job perk and more companies should adopt something similar.

Just a reminder that fascists, authoritarians, dictators of all stripes destroy archives— books, museums, databases, &c— because those things provide windows onto a plurality of other ways we might organize the world. And so preserving, defending, and spreading that knowledge harms those regimes.

DEI is the most popular thing in this list lmao

Major news! A court in Montana has just declared SB458, a bill that "defines sex" in a way that ends the legal recognition of transgender people in Montana, as facially unconstitutional. This is the first time a bill defining sex has been ruled on! Huge win for trans people in MT!

Looks like I was missing this on desktop, but should be fixed now. Remember, accessibility is kindness to your fellow humans.

Just went to an "AI in Teaching" panel and one of the panelists told us very proudly about a math prof who made an AI assistant for calc students that was right 80% of the time. Tech-brained beyond repair to not be wildly embarrassed at the prospect of endorsing that as a "resource" to students.

Going to be quite frank, I do not find anything about this “king” stuff to be funny in any form, don’t think there’s a place for us to just crack wise about it and pretend it’s normal, yes we are all irony-poisoned but if we don’t draw a line here then we have no line

Trump wants Congress to pass the House GOP's version of a budget reconciliation bill that includes massive cuts to Medicaid and SNAP to pay for tax cuts for the rich. The House is on recess, so now would be a great time to call your rep and share your thoughts. (202) 224-3121

I blogged about LLMs again. Sorry everyone, sorry. taggart-tech.com/not...

I've read Bingo Love and it is a very lovely story!

This is fucking incredible.

Not surprised that it's community colleges that are fighting back. Community colleges serve the greatest number of people facing systemic barriers. A large percentage of community college students are the first in their family to attend college.

Hey, what's up with books having sprayed edges these days? LET ME TELL YOU THE STORY! I was there! Thread: 1/13

It's here! Now let's give "Followers only" replies a quick test. Only people who follow me should be able to reply ...which is still a lot tbh.

Nothing like starting the morning meeting with my headset off, and not being able to hear anyone while I start rattling off the calendar for the next couple of days...

The BBC studied the use of its content in LLM output. It found that 91% of the output had mistakes. 51% of the mistakes were "significant." I will not give up this fight. This technology is detrimental to human knowledge. www.bbc.co.uk/aboutt...

Many thanks to @apenwarr.ca's timeless article Systems Design Explains The World which inspired me to analyze the left-pad issue from a systemic thinking standpoint

George Carruthers (1939-2020), an African American space physicist & engineer, invented the UV camera/spectrograph used by Apollo 16 to capture the 1st images of Earth from the Moon. His work revolutionized space science and earned him a place in the National Inventors Hall of Fame. #BlackHistory

I wrote this bit that is entirely unrelated to current things

Germany's Left Party has a new goal of cutting the wealth of billionaires in half within a decade. Ultimately, they "believe there should not be any billionaires." They aim to implement a wealth tax and raise inheritance and income taxes on the rich. www.dw.com/en/germanys-...

So much of our government is on fire right now, and I still have to explain to people why GenAI coding and testing is not some panacea that others think it is. Life is truly a farce sometimes, as my friend @jordanthayer.com will often say. #SoftwareTesting

Just asked a Garages fan if they were okay after mentioning they'd listened to Get Normal and Hurt People to get through the day because... Man. #blaseball
