This may be obvious to many #macOS users, but if your internal drive is APFS and your Time Machine drive takes forever to back up, double check that it isn’t still formatted as Mac OS Extended. Reformatting an older backup drive to APFS reduced my backup times from 15 hours to 15 minutes! 😮
