Great report; confirms what we've been saying: Poverty costs us billions in economic and fiscal costs, like medical bills, crime insecurity, and lost human potential from lack of education and opportunity. Basic income will lead to substantial income gains for lower-income and marginalised groups.

There's just sod all reason not to do UBI. The only reason not to is if you want middle-class wages to stay low, and the only way you can achieve that is by ensuring the risk of saying no to your employer are very high. But economically, practically, morally it's a no brainer.

PBO report found that a basic income floor can slash poverty by 40% at just 5% of what we're spending on poverty, saving taxpayer money. BNN Bloomberg has called it "trickle-up economics" that grows the economy and improves people's ability to retrain and find better work.

BREAKING: New PBO Report estimates a Guaranteed Basic Income can reduce poverty by 40% nationwide at a net cost of just $3.6B/year and 1% impact on hours worked. Poverty costs Canada $80B+/year.

Liberal Leadership hopeful Karina Gould says she'll set us on a path to basic income. This comes immediately after hundreds of UBI Works advocates, across many political views, wrote personal emails to the leadership candidates telling them to support it.

The savings from ending poverty are greater than the cost of a basic income. That's the DOGE dividend we need. Cost of poverty = 13% of spending Guaranteed basic income = 3-5% of spending

Proud to hit our first 1M views on Youtube. 😎 It's not much, but it's honest work building one of the few channels dedicated to AI, automation and basic income. Will you help us reach 5K subs? (Link below)

A national guaranteed basic income could cost just 3-5% of total spending, LESS than the cost of poverty. PBO estimates the impact on hours worked is near 0. It could grow the economy more than it costs, while reducing poverty. Take action: www.ubiworks.ca/liberal2025

We know UBI works. We know it is actually cost effective. We don't need more trials and experiments, we need implementation.

"New Wall Street Journal reporting has revealed an alarming trend within the tech sector... artificial intelligence looks to be displacing human workers and leading to higher unemployment rates." Tech sector layoffs rose from 98k (3.9%) to 152k (5.7%) in just one month. Universal Basic Income NOW!

If you get money outside of labour like a GST cheque, do you think of it differently? No, it's just added to the rest and is used to improve your situation. If "go" space in Monopoly was removed, the game would grind to a halt pretty quick Same idea with #BasicIncome

In a Q&A, Prof. Daniel Hemel assesses the current state of basic income programs, considers what critics get right and wrong about UBI, and shares what he hopes that his new course, Basic Income Lab Seminar, will accomplish: ow.ly/Kntm50UXLlV

Our sister organization Common Wealth Canada is hosting Greece's former Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis this week Wed. Yanis is a champion for Universal Basic Dividends from social wealth funds that invest common capital, such as shares of tech giants that generate value from their users.

The world's a mess. You want a country that can rock with things like pandemics (and those are going to be a thing, now)? You want to prove you're a compassionate country that genuinely values EVERYONE in it, in all their diversity?

It took me years to understand these 2 as separate and complementary movements. GBI as an anti-poverty program targeted to those in need. This is what politicians are mostly focused on. UBI as a dividend from wealth that is held in common, like natural resources and social wealth funds.

Guaranteed basic income costs 3-5% of all spending, less than what poverty costs. UBI is a dividend from things like natural resources or sovereign wealth funds. Both models have already worked for decades. www.ubiworks.ca/gbi-vs-ubi

"If tariffs do become a reality, one of the most effective measures Canada could take right now is to introduce an emergency basic income guarantee... In the short term, a basic income would provide stability for those who could be hardest hit by Trump’s tariffs." www.thespec.com/opinion/cont...

"America's largest digital and print publisher" Dotdash — owner of publications like People, Food & Wine and Investopedia — laid off 4% of its workforce after partnering with OpenAI. Job automation is already here. The question is how will we support those impacted by AI.

Epic comment from a top follower "The more I look around, the clearer it becomes that no job is truly safe—not even physical labor."

A Universal Basic Income makes a lot more sense than trying to police our way out of homelessness. The freedom provided will (yes, will, it is inevitable) make everyone's life better, not just the homeless. The first nation to do it will leap decades ahead of others in the first 5 years, guaranteed.

Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis ran a guaranteed basic income pilot and labour supply did not decrease — it INCREASED. "We do not find evidence that GBI payments caused recipients to reduce their labor supply. In fact…is higher among treated respondents than control respondents."

Good to be able to highlight the Wales #UBI trial in the #HouseofLords as it debated a much more modest proposed increase in UBI for careleavers #UniversalBasicIncome

Americans would feel a lot better about AI if they thought: 1) proper regulations were in place; 2) they were in position to benefit; and 3) it wasn’t obviously going to impact their jobs.

We recently added several analyses to our paper on the employment effects of a $1000/month guaranteed income. 🚨 These new analyses include, for the first time, administrative data on income and employment and results for marriage/ divorce and benefits, among other outcomes. Read on for results! 1/

"Lack of income is the primary driver of homelessness in this province... A single person on ODSP might spend as much as 90% of their income on rent." Basic income saves lives and money. www.thespec.com/opinion/cont...
