Why have I not listened to Stravinsky's Agon before? Gripping stuff. Thanks Radio 3. And a toast to Pierre Boulez on the eve of his centenary 🥂🙏

Ate a magnolia leaf for the first time today. Sort of gingery-peppery, surprising, not unpleasant.

Painting created by Cicely Hancock, c.1967, in the art therapy studio at Netherne hospital in Surrey, where she was compelled to live. This is one of four surviving works by her, all of which depict still lives or landscapes. No biographical information is currently know to us

An extraordinary movement. Thank you to Kate Molleson on #BBCRadio3 for the introduction open.spotify.com/track/5l8SIm...

I can never keep this straight - do the tariffs move forward or back tonight?

I can't see anything in the reporing of the UK Government's civil service shake up that isn't in the system already. Performance pay linked to objectives; measures to remedy underperformance and to exit underperformers, it's all already there so what are they talking about?

Underrated imo open.spotify.com/track/5pSSEk...

This concerto by John McCabe is a find. Great invention, variety, compelling structure. open.spotify.com/track/7JvC1m...

Don't let anyone tell you that you can't live your dreams

Nothing shocking about it. Why is anyone shocked? Governments mostly depend on, and serve, the wealthy few. This is just the equivalent of "saying the quiet part out loud". And anyway we knew it was coming.

Leaving aside the nauseating Doge spin, this all sounds like peanuts compared to the huge outsource contracts for immigration and asylum work many of which are poor value and, more importantly, not well managed.

So government are unhappy with a Palestinian family accessing a visa scheme set up for Ukrainians. The question we should be asking is why they set up a bespoke scheme for one single Nationality & left everyone else, including Palestinians & Sudanese, to people smugglers?

A very bad move by Cooper to deny refugees citizenship if they came by an irregular route. It's clearly meant to sound tough in the war against the small boats. But it is not going to deter anyone from coming by that route, it will just make them feel they are not fully accepted in our society.

Bahrain is in the process of addressing human rights concerns, is a phrase I have just heard a spokesperson from a British University utter.

Oh my heart, the harmonies, the chord changes, the piano, the voice, everything ❤️ open.spotify.com/track/6NQRhp...

I rather agree with the contributor on BBC Broadcasting House who said, in relation to standing ovations at the theatre: if everything is ten out of ten, it gets rather meaningless. Likewise the one or two minutes' silence at a national level is becoming devalued.

Why is Rex consulting Joy about whether he should go on a date with her daughter for goodness' sake? Are you a man or a mouse, Sir? #TheArchers

Nothing winds me up more than the trailers on Radio 3 for their new Unwind thing

Heart wrenching open.spotify.com/track/3cpxWu...

Listening for the first time to Alfredo Casella's second symphony, and finding in it much excitement and delight. This for example is quite the scherzo! open.spotify.com/track/1vQDig...

I know I shouldn't mind, but hearing a Radio 3 presenter talk about "those Baroque bangers we can't get enough of" makes my heart sink, my skin crawl and my stomach churn. I want Radio 3 to appeal to a wide audience, but this down with the kids stuff is just embarrassing.

BBC4 is showing the remarkable 1966 drama Talking to a Stranger (John Hopkins of Z cars fame, Judi Dench et al). People may say ground breaking, but more to the point it is inimitable.

I'm alright Jack, we've never had it so good ... open.spotify.com/track/2ZoymU...

Important argument in this thread. I would add that Labour may be missing an important opportunity to shift terms on immigration, towards something more constructive that would make the Reform voice obsolete.

Seems a shame that one of the better members of Starmer's Cabinet has had to resign, and for flimsy reasons, but at least it's a jolly sight swifter and more honourable than some politicians one can think of. I expect she will be back after a decent interval.

This is an absurd lie, is the thing. He doesn't believe it. Nobody believes it. And yet our entire political and media establishment is dedicated to pretending that they believe it, and that pretending to believe it is the most important thing in the world.

You boy, which day isn't Black Friday between now and Christmas?
