One should also ask which part of a Home Office budget, already in line for a standard 15% cut, is going to be pay for this kind of scheme. I can't see Treasury accepting a case based on savings in detention costs alone; they will expect a reduction in intake based on an imagined deterrent effect.

You are right both about the seriousness of the intent and about the consequences. One must ask how confident can one be in the governance of countries which are up for being paid to do other countries' work? This is quite different from a model of responsibility sharing such as the EU has aimed for

I can't see anything in the plan, as reported, that isn't already in the system. Can't help feeling it's missing the real questions about how to get people working better together - with each other, with Ministers, with the wider world - rather than individual performance.

Also, at the same time, long tracks with imaginative forms. This being one example.

1970s prog rock songs - these were mine 😀 - quite often reference superheroes: see Thick as a Brick (1972), Blood on the Rooftops (1976) and this one from 1977.

Fwiw I certainly consider myself British over English, though I was born in England of parents born in England (there are Welsh and Irish roots further back). But the key point in all this is that only I have the right to define my identity, no-one else can tell me what it is or isn't.

Indeed. The police were not investigating her posts; they had received a complaint of harrassment and had a legal duty to inform her as the subject of the complaint. And that is all they did.

fwiw if every Govt Dept used only Govt owned spaces - some of which are leased back anyway - for offsite meetings, you'd soon run out of room. Otoh I'm not sure Deloitte are the best people to be providing leadership development, and the paltry £100k sounds like it's an add-on to something meatier.

The comment by Universities UK is more skilful but no more convincing. British Universities should not be training people who are going to police countries where torture is rife.

Ah yes I realise that's what prompted him but surely the guy can go through one date and make up his own mind? It's not as if she's a convicted killer. (Unless ... )

I'm not sure! I think it's probably easy listening which is fine, but the advert is so off-putting, as if music is just there to be packaged, labelled and consumed, on a par with herbal supplements!

Wow! I can feel what you write. Maybe being a Londoner helps 😀

Aside from all else, Baroque bangers makes me think of some kind of ornate and gilded sausage.

Is the main obstacle the attachment of individual Ministers to furthering their personal ambitions? I'm wondering how that could be overcome, given joined-up government is not a new project?

They are always in a terrible hurry, is partly why, I think!
