I agree strongly with this. Just as the easy path of blaming the EU for policy decisions supported by the UK helped to lead to Brexit, the easy narrative of “Public Sector waste” undermines public confidence in institutions and leads to Trump/Musk gutting of public services.

Labour were too slow to realise how rubbish the civil service is after 14 years of weak ministers, crap policy. SCS full of public school sycophants. HMRC and DWP as bad now as CSA was 20 years ago, only difference is that our expectations are lower
