Last weekend’s attacks not only failed to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon—they also greatly complicated the challenge Iran presents. Their cascading effects will likely make it even harder for the international community to ensure nuclear nonproliferation and advance disarmament.

Notably, websites like heat.gov, drought.gov, and weather.gov remain untouched. So why target Climate.gov? My take: it’s a troubling attempt to bury vital climate science, making it harder for the public to easily access and use this information.

The 2nd installment of our #DangerSeason Weekly Outlook and roundup is live. From the 1st named storm of hurricane season, wildfires in several states, and extreme #heat baking most of the eastern half of the US, the season is living up to its name. bit.ly/4luoIFT

The US Climate.gov, a key public climate science website, has been shut down by the Trump administration and is now redirecting to noaa.gov/climate.

This week, Trump's WH issued guidance on implementing its so-called “Gold Standard Science” EO—framed by Science Advisor to the President Michael Kratsios as a fix for longstanding issues in the scientific community. But as UCS President @gretchentg.bsky.social explains, it’s all a “golden facade.”

1. Trump cuts to science have massive impacts and deserve mainstream attention like this. 2. Health research focused on understudied populations conducted under the Biden Administration is in no way equivalent to the political interference in research happening now. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/26/p...

How dire is the situation for climate research in the U.S. under the Trump administration? “The kind of destruction they’re causing will have implications for years to come,” said UCS’s Rachel Cleetus in a conversation with @climateadam.bsky.social. Check it out here:‬

This is the first week of summer and we’re already seeing dangerous extreme heat waves across much of the country, with most of central and Eastern United States above 90 or even 100F. This extreme weather is made more common and more severe by climate change.

In her blog, Dr. Rachel Licker explains how our new report “Keeping Everyone’s Lights On...” explores ways to strengthen the US power system against both current and future climate impacts.

“There is something called a tipping point in climate science, and we’re pushing closer and closer to that tipping point, when perhaps we will not be able to bounce back, as nature has the capacity to do right now.” –Omanjana Goswami, @ucs.org‬

Hey Phoenix! 🚨Extreme weather season is here. But instead of protecting communities, the Trump admin is gutting climate protections + disaster response funding. Join us at the Phoenix Extreme Weather People’s Hearing. Thurs, June 26, 5:30pm MST. #DangerSeason #ActOnClimate 📍Info + RSVP:

The richness of President Trump's Science Advisor accusing others of politicizing science as they gut Federal science agencies and target politically contentious science topics—like climate, equity, and vaccines—with surgical precision is really quite something. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Tomorrow and every Wednesday, 11.30 am ET: Join UCS & @enviroprotnet.bsky.social for MindLab—a weekly mindfulness space supporting the well-being of scientists and those advancing science. Open to all scientists, public servants, and science supporters. Info + RSVP:

157+ million people in the US are under extreme weather alerts. Meanwhile, the Trump admin is attacking science—backed by the same fossil fuel interests driving the climate crisis. Stay informed & take action: dangerseason.ucs.org 🔥 #DangerSeason

📣: a conversation on #DangerSeason - a term used by @ucs.org to describe the deadly mix of extreme heat, storms, floods, and wildfires intensified by global warming and what must be done to protect vulnerable families and public health. 🗓️ TODAY, June 24 | 1–2 PM ET 🔗 Sign up: bit.ly/dangerseason

What is "Danger Season" & why does it matter? 🌡️🌪️ It’s when extreme heat, storms, floods & wildfires—fueled by global warming—put our health & safety at risk. Join us TODAY at 1PM ET to learn how this impacts our communities & how to take action. 💻 bit.ly/dangerseason

Stories like Sam's are becoming too common as climate change increases the frequency and severity of extreme weather. And instead of taking action to protect us, Lee Zeldin's EPA continues to put #PollutersFirst. Tell Zeldin he doesn't have our support: actionnetwork.org/petitions/op...

Research by the Union of Concerned Scientists shows what experts say is an alarming rise in lobbying efforts by agribusiness. “This system ... is unfortunately where profits take precedence over people and the environment.” –Omanjana Goswami, @ucs.org buff.ly/IeVvYtM

If we don’t stop the pollution fueling the climate crisis more people will suffer from extreme weather events like Hurricane Helene. That’s why we were in Asheville last week for our Extreme Weather People’s Hearing - to highlight the very real impacts of inaction on the climate crisis.

Trump is setting fire to US climate science. And that endangers us all. New vid, ft. the amazing @zentouro.info, @climateofgavin.bsky.social & @ucs.org's Rachel Cleetus youtu.be/OrcaypKuuZg

On May 23, Trump signed an executive order misleadingly titled "Restoring Gold Standard Science". It guts scientific integrity policies across agencies. We sent a letter to OSTP, which is the office drafting new guidance. Learn what’s at stake in @jbd-phd.bsky.social's new blog.

Today marks the official first day of summer, but #DangerSeason is already in full swing. Check out the first installment of our climate team’s Danger Season Weekly Outlook to learn what extreme events we’re tracking, how they affect people and communities, and what’s shaping up for next week.

UCS’s Omanjana Goswami talked to @civileats.com about Big Ag's lobbying efforts ahead of the anticipated debate over a farm bill. “This system—how it’s set up and how the current administration is also moving it—is unfortunately where profits take precedence over people and the environment.”

"The case for rail electrification is clear (...) But decisionmakers at all levels of government are needed to combat the entrenched interests of multibillion-dollar industry whose profits are built on ignoring the direct harms of their industry."

In his latest blog, UCS’ Steven Higashide raises the next opportunity for the Senate to get it right by rejecting the budget bill that would benefit oil companies and wealthy households while punishing clean vehicle owners.

We all have a role to play to uphold our values, regardless of shifting federal policies. Learn more and take the pledge:

⚡☀️ Renewable energy in the US has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years. But actions by President Trump and the Republican-led Congress threaten that progress. This graph shows how far we’ve come. Learn more in UCS’s John Rogers blog: act.ucsusa.org/4jRZ2lv

As climate change drives extreme storms, heat waves, and outages, the gap between electricity planning and community needs is growing. Our recent report "Keeping Everyone’s Lights On" explores this. Coauthor Sital Sathia breaks it down from an energy justice lens.

Today as #OSHA holds its hearing on badly needed #heat protections, NOAA forecasts dangerous levels of heat across the South & West. UCS calls for #HeatJusticeNow #HeatWeek #JusticiaDeCalor

🚨 Last week CA and 10 other states announced plans to sue the Trump Admin for their illegal attempt to repeal 3 clean air safeguards. @governor.ca.gov responded with an EO reaffirming CA’s commitment to a clean vehicle transition. 👏 Kudos to Gov Newsom for keeping CA moving forward.
