The highlight of today’s cycle was a golden eagle in the Trossachs. Also stopped at the Langside duck collection, which included black-necked swan, ruddy shelduck, brent goose, lesser white-fronted goose, pintail, wood duck, mandarin, and Egyptian goose.

WeBS day. Cycled along the Allanwater, to Cromlix, and to Holmehill #birdingbybike Jack snipe at Ashfield pond Green sandpiper along the Allanwater upstream of Kinbuck Goshawk up in the Cromlix woods, plus a carrion x hooded crow Just 2 hawfinch for me at Holmehill (there were 17 earlier)

A cold cycle down to the estuary today, but at least no ice. Marsh harrier at Skinflats hunting away. Finally found the twite flock (c20) at Higgins Neuk. Little egret on the Powfoulis saltmarsh. And had a couple of grey partridge near Airth Year list up to 25. #birdingbybike

Back to Holmehill this afternoon and there was still about 5 hawfinch around.

So I got to 100 species for the year, on Sunday with shoveler at Cambus. Still got a few easy ones that I keep missing, but it earlier than in 2023 by a month (2024 doesn’t count - it took me till April). #birdingbybike

Stopped of at Stirling uni on the cycle home from work and found this! Drake ring-necked duck on Airthrey Loch, just to the west of the footbridge.

Back out on the ice tyres today for a Blairdrummond GPs / Loch Watston / Doune ponds loop. Nothing of note other than several trees down.

Early walk to Holmehill in Dunblane gave 1 hawfinch.

Crossbill, woodcock and peregrine added to this year’s self-powered list; bringing the total to 95.

Out on the ice tyres again today , doing a Clacks bridge loop. Highlights were whimbrel & 3 rock pipit at Higgins Neuk, and bearded tit and water rail at Tullibody Inch.

Great white egret at Gartmorn Dam, in field by the north-east corner; also single scaup and pochard.

More sightings of single hawfinches this afternoon in Dunblane, at Holmehill and Ochlochy Park.

From the desk this morning: 1 hawfinch briefly on treetops in Ochlochy Park, Dunblane at 0855.

Got back to the house to have a kingfisher shoot up the burn at the bottom of the garden, and hawfinches calling from the tall tree (presumably the same at Homehill).
