@bsbibotany.bsky.social looking promising for Malling toadflax Chaenorhinum origanifolium. If correct new for Daventry Northamptonshire

@bsbibotany.bsky.social when I saw this at base of wall in Daventry Northamptonshire one species jumped out straight away Malling toadflax Chaenorhinum origanifolium. Looking on the web of its leaves it's looking promising

@bsbibotany.bsky.social I spy with my sharp botanical eye. What do we have here? Only the glossy distinct rosettes of look ideal for Capella rubella Red shepherds purse. In a new monad for the species at Daventry Northamptonshire

Back in 2023 I spotted a very lovely little Iris growing in rough grass behind railings in Llandudno Junction. It’s still there, and seems to be first British record for Iris reticulata x histrioides. Close-up photo courtesy of Wendy McCarthy (County Recorder) who had a much better camera than me!

This dropped into a road the other night so I rescued it. Pale brindled beauty I've been told

Conservation funding “82.9% was assigned to vertebrates. … while fungi and algae were barely represented at less than 0.2%” Proud to work towards conservation of #AquaticFungi — tiny but mighty! www.theguardian.com/environment/...

So it begins. Dead great crested newt on migration route in village on minor road north Northamptonshire.

@bsbibotany.bsky.social #wildflowerhour late posting this with everything going on but red dead nettle left with cut leaved dead nettle right Daventry monad recording Northamptonshire

@bsbibotany.bsky.social looks like another new monad record for musk storksbill in Daventry too. A species once extinct in Northamptonshire but was refound 4 the county by myself and Paul Stanley in the early 2000s Since then number of records for this species in my county is picking up the pace.

@bsbibotany.bsky.social blimey this is new for Daventry too double yes! Blinks

@bsbibotany.bsky.social with several monads to do in Daventry Northamptonshire I knew this would be there Four leaved allseed. New for Daventry. Yes!!

@bsbibotany.bsky.social @richardmabbutt.bsky.social this glossy rosette has thrown me out for quite a while. One thought I had is a type of willowherb. Several below and on low brick wall. Long Buckby Northamptonshire. One specimen collected to grow on to see what it is

@bsbibotany.bsky.social well it looks more like it now with better growth. Wall bedstraw new for Wellingborough Northamptonshire in a driveway. On the increase in my county. Specimen collected to grow in cultivation as where it grows could be threatened by weedkillers.

@bsbibotany.bsky.social good to check a busy roundabout I've not checked in Northamptonshire before on Saturday. Kitted up with safety gear managed to see quite a few bee orchid rosettes as in foreground of my picture. Brian Laney

@bsbibotany.bsky.social @naturalengland.bsky.social well thanks to habitat management by both rangers/wardens and fallow deer at Castor Hanglands, it only took me five minutes to find a man orchid rosette. Data for last record for the site I have so far found out is from 2016.

10225 Dark Bordered Beauty. Despite the ongoing work of @bcyorkshire.bsky.social at Strensall Common, York, it is in great peril. #ukbutterflies #muchadoaboutmothing #teammoth #york #uknaturalists #bugsky #aureians @savebutterflies.bsky.social #inverts #lepidoptera

@bsbibotany.bsky.social @joshual951.bsky.social mousetail Myosurus minimus rosettes up @ the "herbicide sprayed" site of last year. 3 ice cream tubs of rosettes collected and added 2 the farm gateway @ the trial site. B interesting if they survive but better than doing nothing. Northants

@bsbibotany.bsky.social @joshual951.bsky.social as a big mousetail Myosurus minimus population got totally herbicide sprayed on it last year at one Northants site, permission granted for a new transaction "safety" site. Edges of this field entrance are the trial site.
