Seeing the news this morning, this now seems appropriate.

Seeing the news this morning, this now seems appropriate.

Today's chord is A7, the 2 in our 2-5-1 in D. One of the 4 main 7th chord shapes, our b7(G)/3(C#) pair is on strings 4 & 3, our 5(E) is on string 2, & our root(A) is on string 1. Groove on! Dig it in a 2-5: youtu.be/FKK5ASIpTJg

Today's chord is Em6, the 2 in our 2-5-1 in D. Our b3(G) is on string 4, our 6(C#) is on string 3, our root(E) is on string 2, & our 5(B) is on string 1. Play on!

Here's the full progression. This 2-5 is similar to my favourite m7-9 2-5 cycle, we're just adding the 9 to our m7. From there, any barre chord difficulty aside, fingers 2 & 3 are already in position to play our 1 chord. Groove on! youtu.be/t9VddcNFnlg

Today's chord is Gmaj9#11, the 1 in our 2-5-1 in G. Based on the Dread Fmaj7™, our 3(B)/7(F#) pair is on strings 4 & 3, our root(G) on string 2 is moved up 2 frets to become our 9(A), & our our 5(D) on string 1 is moved down 1 fret to become our #11(C#). youtu.be/MxSlCQnm7NY

Instead of renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of Murica, my choice would be to rename it after icon Molly Sibly, the hero extraordinaire of @hollywilson.bsky.social's epic novel KITTENTITS.

Today's chord is D9, the 5 in our 2-5-1 in G. Based on an open A7, our b7(C)/3(F#) pair is on strings 4 & 3, our 5(A) is on string 2, & our root(D) on string 1 is moved up 2 frets to become our 9(E). Groove on! Root: youtu.be/7lBTUhqjlMs 2-5: youtu.be/PAEmZ6tfQVA

The glue attaching the dowel stick to the neck on my new/old tenor banjo crapped out so I got to play with hide glue for the first time today. Trippy shit to work with, but not too bad.

Here's the full progression. This progression sounds great & gets easier to play with every chord. The astute among you may recognize our 1 chord shape as the same as our previous 1 in F. With only 4 notes available, we often recycle shapes in new contexts. Groove on! youtu.be/9xBKpT2plQQ

Today's chord is C6/9, the 1 in our 2-5-1 in C. Based on an open C triad, our 5(G) is on string 4, our root(C) on string 3 is moved up 2 frets to become our 9(D), our 3(E) is on string 2, & our root(C) on string 1 is moved down 3 frets to become our 6(A). youtu.be/SetyAeMVP-o

Happy birthday to Edward Gorey

Today's chord is G7, the 5 in our 2-5-1 in C. One of the 4 main 7th chord shapes, our root(G) is on string 4, our 5(D) is on string 3, & our b7(F)/3(B) pair is on strings 2 & 1. This is a great minimal movement 2-5 loop. Groove to your hearts desire. 2-5: youtu.be/lblrdpFiEfM

Happy birthday, Nina Simone!

Here's the full progression. Now this, is a damn simple progression, yet still has an absolutely fabulous sound. We've got that finger flip between the 2 & 5 chords, but even that's not too difficult. You can slide finger 1 up to catch the 1 chord, but using finger 2 sets us up to loop back... 1/

Today's chord is Fmaj13, the 1 in our 2-5-1 in F. Based on an F triad. Our 3(A) on string 4 is moved down 2 frets to become our 9(G), our5(C) on string 3 is moved up 2 frets to become our 13(D), our root(F) on string 2 is moved down 1 fret to become our 7(E), & our 3(A) is on string 1.

Today's chord is C7b9, the 5 in our 2-5-1 in F. Based on an open C7, our 5(G) is on string 4, our root(C) on string 3 is moved up 2 frets to become our b9(Db), & our 3(E)/b7(Bb) pair is on strings 2 & 1. Root: youtu.be/SetyAeMVP-o 2-5: youtu.be/3QYvBT6ducY

Today's chord is Gm6, the 2 in our 2-5-1 in F. Based on an open Gm triad, our root(G) is on string 4, our 5(D) is on string 3, our root(G) on string 2 is moved down 3 frets to become our 6(E), & our b3(Bb) is on string 1. Dig it with a bass: youtu.be/MxSlCQnm7NY

After our most recent 2-5-1, I thought we'd slow it down a little and post a simple progression in F. Play on!

Here's the full progression in all its resplendent glory. Yes, it's a nightmare to play, even I struggle, but I really dig the sound. The only advice I can offer is to take it slow & think of the accomplishment. Alternately, now's a good time for alcohol. youtu.be/6u2X4CD2mtM

Not to be outdone by yesterday's chord, today's chord is Cmaj7#5#11, the 1 in our 2-5-1 in C. Our 7(B)/3(E) pair is split between strings 4 & 1, our #11(F#) is on string 3, & our #5(G#) is on string 2. Dig it with a root while you curse my name: youtu.be/SetyAeMVP-o

Today's chord is the lavishly named G7#5#11, the 5 in our 2-5-1 in C. Our #11(C#) is on string 4, our b7(F)/3(B) pair is on strings 3 & 2, & our #5(D#) is on string 1. Dig it with a root: youtu.be/MxSlCQnm7NY And in our 2-5: youtu.be/PAEmZ6tfQVA Groove on!

If you're looking for an excellent fecking book to read, I'd highly recommend Holly J Wilson's KITTENTITS. I can't possibly say enough good things about it. No spoilers, but it may not be for the faint of heart. Definitely the best book I've read in a good long while.

Today's chord is Dm13, the 2 in our 2-5-1 in C. Based on an open Am7, our b7(C)/b3(F) pair is on strings 4 & 3, our 5(A) on string 2 is moved up 2 frets to become our 13(B), & our root(D) on string 1 is moved up 2 frets to become our 9(E). Dig it with a root: youtu.be/7lBTUhqjlMs

According to my notes, we've had 2-5-1s in every key but C so far this year. Instead of giving you a boring, simple 2-5-1 in C, I thought I'd give your fingers a workout. If you're not cursing my name at the end of this, I haven't done my job. Play on!

Here's the full progression. This 2-5 is a derivative of my favourite 2-5, the m7-9. This 5 -1 is equally groovy. Hingeing on that D# on string 3, finger 1 slides down 1 fret and finger 2 drops to string 1 at fret 2, making for a very smooth transition. youtu.be/l_9mkOIptlg

Today's chord is Emaj7, the 1 in our 2-5-1 in E. Based on a the Dread Fmaj7™, our 3(G#)/7(D#) pair is on strings 4 & 4, our root(E) is on string 2, & our 5(B) is on string 1. youtu.be/-kngT6JGVXk
