some empathy and kindness will go a long way - which you have and I have, but we need to have 10x as much. the humanities, academically and otherwise, have been under intense pressure for decades in favor of STEM+productivity. we also really do need to make jobs for humanities minded folks...

i was delighted to see this was open over the weekend... :) felt like i got some special early admission. this exhibit it BIG in scope and such a fun juxtaposition from the regular, always amazing, getty collection. art in time, through time, at this time.

yup. if we treat them like any text/book/paper... and work with them socratically it all goes better. it is confusing for many because the "knowledge/data/content" seems to be emanating from the same source as any "computation". Decoupling these "modalities" or being explicit with them helps.

and for added encouragement, you probably don't need, your book allowed me to push for socratic discussion with at least, so far, 5 others in my life. These folks probably wouldn't have taken to just an invite from me "let's get together and be socratic!" a book from "a socrates" helps!

gah! every time i WATCH or, like during covid, ENGAGE in an event you are live conversing at it produces such a massive nostalgia for uchicago live discussion. the book does such a good job conveying that energy... but nothing beats actual live conversation!
