I’ve successfully lowered the Uncle Doc’s Tool Shack roof. No more widow-maker header and the rain should stay out now. Before and after.

Another good use of a baseball analogy.

It’s March 1st, which means my Irish potatoes will be going in the ground in two weeks. The main garden will be planted around May 1st. I will also have a large area for corn. Food security is one of my main goals/concerns. FYI, an average adult needs a minimum of 438,000 calories per year.

To me, today feels like the day we went over the edge. No longer is it a question of if, but when. The perfect day to harrow rake five and half acres of cow shit in my pasture. Quite apropos.

I’ve witnessed the lowest point in American foreign diplomacy today. What an embarrassment of monumental scale. All because many of you were promised lower prices. Fools. I’m out.

My In-Laws built a place next door. This the is view of my place from there.

It was only a matter of time before news of suicides by fired Federal workers came to light. Shame on those who wrought this idiotic wrath on America.

If I could speak to my younger self, I would tell him that loyalty to a job/employer is not worth your effort, stress, and time. Be loyal to yourself and put value in yourself because an organization cannot and will not reciprocate.

This has to be my favorite use of a baseball analogy ever.

Because I cannot leave well enough alone, I am going to drop the ceiling on my tool shed to eliminate the gap that lets in rain and dust. Then I’m going to rerun my wiring to put in five LED lights. Two in the shed and 3 in the bays. Then I’m going to add a 20 amp breaker and wire in four outlets.

Since the greenhouse is finished, it’s time to move on to my next project. The snow/cold has delayed me, but I plan to build a lean-to shelter off the end of my existing bay shelter. I’m going to keep my generator there and store the wood I saved from Pappy John’s house.

The best part of winter is keeping beers on my back porch. Natural refrigeration.

It’s not 10 inches, but it’s enough…and it’s still snowing.

Leaving social media in March 2024 was excellent for my mental health. Returning to social media in January 2025, albeit here with minimal connections, has not been good for my mental health.

It’s mid-February and that means it’s time to start planning the spring / early summer garden. I’m going potato heavy with this iteration because I can store them. I’ll also do a corn area and sweet potato patch (both not pictured).

Say what now?

I scrolled though my recent internet history and it reads like a roller coaster of hope/fun and doom/gloom. From cruise fares and what to do in Puerto Rico to… How to long term store bulk potatoes and flour, and how much 308 ammunition costs. These are not good times.

My oldest two are 17 and 16. I told them the other night that they can live at home for as long as they want. I will not send them out into *this* world. I would be setting them up for failure. I’d rather keep working and delay my retirement than have them start out in a hole on their own.

As a public servant of almost 25 years, I am horrified by how my Federal brethren are being treated. The average person has no idea how much a civil servant does for their country, state, and community. If you voted for this, may your short sightedness be brief.
