In the U.S. in 1825, *452* out of 1000 children born died before their 5th birthday.
By 1925, that number was 135 out of a 1000 children.
Today, in 2025, that number is *7*
And it is entirely due to advances in medicine, public health, and technology.

I guess if I were to have like. a take. about it. I would say that making people feel bad and guilty and depressed is not an effective way to activate people, because depression makes you shut down and bow out, guilt and feeling bad makes you avoid, and generally it leads to hopelessness

you could fill a whole book with just "public statements by Pope Francis that purport to be about general Catholic teachings or beliefs but are in fact an incredibly specific and direct subtweet of something ONLY the American clergy are doing"

weirdly thankful for my old libertarian-leaning and/or radically leftist friends who have always been just paranoid enough to make me think twice about signing up for things like that. like. it has potential to make real progress…and to cause real harm.

It's not alarmism or doomerism to point out that the people in power now mean to do what they say they're going to do. It would be amazing if folks in positions of power could spend time and energy planning how to fight it rather than fighting those of us who are warning that it's coming.
