📢Veterans, now is the time to raise hell! While Trump & Musk fire critical VA staff, House Republicans are rushing through bills to GUT Veterans’ care. They think no one will fight back. Prove them wrong. Speak out. Spread the word. MORE: www.military.com/daily-news/o...

A Hinds County judge ordered a newspaper to remove an editorial that criticized Clarksdale city officials and said that “secrecy (and) deception erode the public trust.”

Some great tools to start with from the Animating Democracy project - be sure to check out the webinars still available on YouTube (in comment):

For those that aren't familiar with the way grants work, "Indirect costs" are essentially the cost of "renting" a research university's existing facilities, staff, and services that will be used in the research commissioned by the grant. The universities must maintain these resources... (1/2)

In 2010, Viktor Orbán launched a power grab nearly identical to Trump's. It led to the death of democracy in Hungary. Hungarians I spoke with pleaded with me to learn from their experience — and act before it's too late. www.vox.com/politics/398...

I know many of you think the church shouldn't get mixed up in politics. But these days, being loving is political. Being compassionate is political. Standing with a for the people Jesus loves is political. Respecting the dignity of every human being (one of the baptism vows) is political.

BREAKING: Large new study on impact of a Christian nationalism, just released this morning (02/04).

Please, everyone, drop what you’re doing and read this:

For real. Unfortunately, we’re apparently the smaller third of the nation right now, slightly behind the fanatically deluded third responsible for this mess and the even larger third who couldn’t be bothered to participate.

It is a betrayal. Not just of our allies, partners, neighbors, but of our dearest friends. The emotional weight of this travesty should hit hard.

They said don’t make science political But now scientists aren’t getting paid They said don’t make science political But now we’re backing up our data in fear of losing access to servers They said don’t make science political But now our colleagues fear coming to work…

Educators are teaching in perilous times. We face a white supremacist backlash — funded by billionaires. . . . Billionaires no longer just fund reactionary policies; they are merging corporate power with government repression to cement their dominance. 🧵 www.zinnedproject.org/news/teachin...

Academic Skyers: I am compiling a list of policies and statements from various universities about how they are handling the "pause" in terms of stopping expenditures (or not). Please respond to this post with your institution and materials. THANK YOU!

Back in August, when @propublica.org and @documented.net obtained these training videos, this is what Leavitt had to say about Trump and Project 2025: “As our campaign leadership and President Trump have repeatedly stated, Agenda 47 is the only official policy agenda from our campaign.”

I just heard from a nonprofit in Massachusetts that helps veterans with transitional housing. Trump's shutdown of gov funding hurts their ability to buy and prepare food for 100+ veterans. Rent is due in 5 days. The loss of funds could mean some veterans face eviction.

Seems to be coming true. A key ally to President Donald Trump detailed plans to put career civil servants “in trauma” in a series of previously unreported speeches that provide a sweeping vision for a second Trump term. (story from October)

I use my Bluesky feed to take notes much of the time and save something I want to easily find again later. The content here has been great so far - a lot of important stuff getting shared. But it’s also important to post the good stuff, the things that keep you human and sane.

I know my KC kindred are celebrating, but I can’t stop feeling apocalyptic every time we go to the Super Bowl. For the first 4 decades of my KC-born life, the one thing you could count on was that our teams would get your hopes up and then break your heart. And now… World Series, Super Bowls & chaos

In fact, Senator Cotton voted *for* the 2022 amendment that created the 30-day notice requirement: www.senate.gov/legislative/...

This is part of it - another part is understanding that this base has been conditioned by earlier generations of Christians who saw both genocide and Jim Crow/ slavery as acceptable, biblically founded, and part of God’s plan. Especially in the South, where “chivalry” excused violence.

Many Christians (and many associated with other religions) have been trained from birth to accept concepts without evidence. Understanding the psychology behind that is the first step in changing hearts and minds. ⤵️
