Italian, but you're absolutely right about the Grommit thing! It never occurred to me before.

I love that tune. Not everyone's taste. Great cartoon too. His dog is always saving him from his own ignorance and resents him for it. Terrific.

My partner and I have been together 25 years (happily unmarried) and got matching tattoos 8 years in, on our "Thingiversary". Your theory holds water.

These battle nuns insist on wearing a heavily armoured outer layer for protection. It's a hard habit to break.

"One odd puppy full of delightful strangeness" needs to be your bio. I'm looking forward to more Wyrdwood. I will pre-order shortly!

I love the Alt Text on this too.

Gorgeous.

No I didn't. Thank you.

I forgot to alt-text the above image. It's a picture of the is-Salvatur statue near Marsalforn in Gozo, Malta. It is a statue of Jesus on a hill with his arms raised to each side. Yellow and red wildflowers cover the ground.

Mine too...

Ha! I know exactly where this bench is. I agree with your point as well.

From. They made it *from* the Teletubbies.

One of these people is me. Proud baldy for about 25 years. By choice at first, now my options have narrowed a bit...

He's watching you type this isn't he?

This is how we got Scientology.

I know it's a typo, but a Big Emotional Beast is quite an evocative image. Godzilla needs a hug and a nice cup of tea.

You could name the chapters after what happens in them, like on Friends, "The one where Rachel gets eaten by an orc", although that's a bit spoilery.

The iPad and Surface were born out of this, as were smartphones. You can hear the gasps in the audience as he shows it off. Nobody had seen this before and people threw money at him to license it. Now this tech is everywhere.

Here it is, Jeff Han, 2006. Although I think his demo applications are way cooler than anything we currently do with his technology! youtu.be/5JcSu7h-I40?...

I would caveat this as multi-touch screens. Screens that detect pressure and movement from multiple, and moving, fingers at once. This lets you zoom and swipe. I first saw it demonstrated on a TED Talk in the early noughties I think?

We watched it for the first time this weekend so it's probably more our fault than yours. At least now we know what happens next!

Although the latter brings Harkonnens to mind for some reason...

Just an idea, but it seems to me that the sequel to SPAAAACE CAAAATS should be called SPAAAAACE CAAAAATS and so on. That way you have room for three prequel novels as well, or four if you're prepared to countenance SPCE CTS.

Ah, got it. It did say it was DRM-free when I pre-ordered, per your other post.
comment in response to post
It's very cheap! Is that just the pre-order price?

I've seen it before, it happens all the time.

At one end of it, if you ignore the stairs up to Lower Marsh, the road curves into a dead end. Very much a liminal space.

Leake Street that runs between York Road and Lower Marsh and goes straight under the old Eurostar terminal at Waterloo. It's full of some high-quality street art that changes all the time. I used to work right next to it and loved walking through it. Very atmospheric.

Yes, very good. I wasn't expecting two to drop at once this week, but I think it was a good idea. They were quite different in pace and feel.

D'Onofrio is also wonderful. In every scene you're wondering if this is the moment he breaks. You know it's coming, but don't know when. I thought the kid's choir might have done it, but then the Latvians as well! Superb.

What this looks like to me someone with a superpower that lets them bombard you with all the tears you have caused others to weep. Would they drown me?
comment in response to post
Yes, he fits the part slightly better than Tom Cruise.

Unfortunately, it's in Vilnius! Shall I ask them if they ship to Yorkshire?

That's lovely. Who is the artist?

All my friends are skeletons. They beat the rhythm with their bones.

There's a "dream job" joke here, but I will save us all the embarrassment of making one up.

@rjbarker.bsky.social it looks like we've found your cover for SPAAACE CAAATS. (Was that enough "A"s?)
