The 3d VTT was canceled because the main developer killed his wife and himself. I hope it's not the same problem or this will become quickly a creepypasta

Critter Kitchen: the not-so-good
- at 2 players count leave behind the restaurateurs (thay can make the game very unbalanced)

Critter Kitchen: the good
- the aestethic is really nice (even if not at Flamecraft level)
- it's more complex than it seem
- the turns are fast and smooth
- I like the rumors mechanic

Great illustration: made me go check the game.

I was starting from your desire to play actual Islam-in-space. I just do not believe it would be a fun experience for a bunch of reasons. One of them is gender inequality.

Gender inequality is embedded in most religions. If you want "real" Islam (or Christianity, for what is worth) you get gender inequality for free. ^_^

Actual Islam-in-space can rise a lot of problems with oppression and inequality with female gamers. I agree to sticking just to the vibes and not recreating a real religion in a TTRPG

Coriolis - The Third Orizon: the not-so-good
- too much stuff cramped in the book: a lot deserves more space
- the combat is uninspired with some stiff mechanics
- the lack of a proper first adventure in the core book is a delusion
- the middle east vibes are not reflected enough in the art

Coriolis - The Third Orizon: the good
- the self contained setting is well detailed and consinstent.
- the spaceship combat is relatively easy while keeping some degree of strategy.
- the middle east vibes are unusual and refreshing

Battle Shapers: the not-so-good
- sometimes boss fights feels a little unfair
That's it. This is not a game will convert you to FPS, but if you like them, this is pure joy.
Now go shoot some robots! π£π€π―

Battle Shapers: the good
This is a fun game for those who loves FPS
- the controls are top notch
- the stages are full of stuff without becoming too chaotic
- the builds feels different enough to make each run something you must adjust to.
- the aesthetic remind me of Overwatch and looks great.

I hated the book, so I'm hyped by the game: finally I can tell that story, but way better.

Enemies can interact with players both when you roll certain numbers and/or when you write numbers next to them. For example in the first map, enemies trigger attack if you roll 5+ on the Evil Dice and if you write an odd number next to them (and they do 2 different things)

On the top of my mind The Between does a better job with a similar premise. But don't misunderstand me: Vaesen is still a good game; i'm thining about what can make it better.

Power Creep: the not-so-good
- the rulebook is confusing at best. Rules are in the wrong order, examples are missing or focused on the wrong things
- the 4 characters offer minimal variation to the game.

Power Creep: the good
Nice ideas scattered all around.
- the enemy mechanic has a lot of potential.
- the sequential number requirement is complex without being frustrating.
- the crafting sistem is nice
- the aestetic is pleasant

In a game where my main activity is to investigate I expect mechanics focusing on that to make it more engaging/interesting from a narrative point of view.
Expecially in a game where the monsters are never "fightable" per se.

Vaesen is a good game and I have no doubt BUT
Con:
the system is not enough focused on investigation/NPC interaction.

And the expected revenue can vary a lot from D&D to a small indie project on itch.io

I absolutely agree with the "minimum wage" and I have no idea how much it should be but unsustainable work should not be a thing ever, anywere. Said so, not every project can afford a TTRPG writer (or writer/designer) because the optimal outcome is writers well paid + project successful.

Things I liked
- the premise is straightforward and off screen
- the players can choose how fast dive into the action or how much enjoy the setting before going toward the main objective
- More creepy than combat oriented
- It was super easy to explain the mechanics one at the time, when needed

I don't know if it my "favorite" but I recently run (at a CON) Bloom for Mothership and it was super fun.
