Everyone in #Austin feels this way sometimes. somethingpositive.net/comic/counti...

Watched "Hundreds of Beavers" last night with the kids and they all loved it slapstick humor, although we had to skip through one scene with the wolves as it was too intense for our littlest one. So much silly fun. Thanks, @hundredsofbeavers.bsky.social

Looks like Here maps (wego.here.com) still has the proper name for the Gulf of Mexico. I last used this service on my Nokia Windows phone back in 2014. Bing, Apple, and Google have all failed us on this front.

Hello everyone! For the next four days, Through the Moongate Part I (from Akalabeth to Ultima VI) will be available for free on Amazon at this link: www.amazon.com/Through-Moon... For the rest of the week, all my other ebooks will be available at a discount. Thank you very much, and happy reading!

My kids ran into Dax, an accessibily assessment robot that builds a map of sidewalks that need attention, while hanging out on the UTexas campus this morning.

I'm pleased to announce that I've been appointed by the Austin, TX city council to be a member of the Community Technology and Telecommunications Commission (www.austintexas.gov/content/comm...), starting with the March 2025 meeting.

Just finished "Service Model" by @aptshadow.bsky.social. Highly recommended, especially for tech-oriented SF fans, as a parable of what ill can happen when we tolerate cruelty in our society. Also, really funny.

I just discovered that there are 7 (SEVEN!) movies in the "Bring It On" franchise, a cheerleading cinematic universe if you will.

First Council Meeting of 2025, and my first meeting rolling up my sleeves and getting to work as your District 7 representative. These are some of the Agenda items Council will discuss:

After contacting the Georgia Tech alumni office yesterday, I got a call this afternoon from a member of the university communications staff with some clarifications. She said that the memo from the College of Computing that had circulated had been a staff overreaction.

Ben Combee would love to see some malicious compliance from federal workers by having federal workers start removing all pronouns from federal workers' work output.

As a Georgia Tech alumni, I'm ashamed at my schools cowardice here.

Spent Monday afternoon disassembling Nintendo handhelds and switching out their charging ports with USB-C boards from www.tindie.com/stores/gilte.... Both worked well, but it definitely benefited from having a heat gun and microscope.

When the Patriot Act was passed, libraries got requests for patrons’ borrowing history. We were prohibited from disclosing those requests. We deleted and shredded those records and stopped tracking reading history for that reason. ALSO.

Just sent messages to #texas Senators Cruz and Cornyn about the administration's usurpation of congressional power over allocating government money. Maybe framing this as a separation of powers issue might make it through their filters and lead to some push back.

After last night's executive order, has anyone checked that Matthew Lesko is OK?

@ernie.tedium.co Roku OS hosts a rich ecosystem of screensavers. Go to Settings / Theme / Screensavers to see the whole catalog, both written internally and by our developers.

Remember, doing lots of things all at once is designed to overwhelm. Don’t let it. Take care of yourself. Focus on small things you can do.

Good news for #Texas residents like me; this will mean there's at least some resistance to enacting the worst possible ideas this session, although it is still going to be a tough fight.

Congrats to Mark Rober and his team at @crunchlabs.bsky.social for the successful launch of SatGus just now. Hope the deployment from the launch vehicle goes well and they're able to establish communications and control over the next few days. Details over at space.crunchlabs.com

Had a fun evening out with the spouse seeing the #austin improv troupe Girls! Girls! Girls! make an on-the-spot musical based on Never Never Land with pirates, sirens, little boys, crocodiles, and a showstopper parallel realization song set in two separate worlds at the same time.

My own opinion is that it's good to signal (through words and/or actions) the virtues that you value; that's one of the most important parts of maintaining a healthy community.

@matt.godbolt.org saw your post at www.patreon.com/posts/matts-..., and wanted to note a quick win might be making combo images from related compiler releases. squashfs dedupes identical files, so you may get a nice reduction in total mounted file size.

Thanks to @ahl.bsky.social for mentioning Quiet Feed on the BlueSky episode of Oxide and Friends. This is a feed that highlights people you follow that don't post very often, so you don't miss their insights. Very useful and worth pinning. bsky.app/profile/did:...
