Their engineering department seems responsive at least. I reported a pot hole across from Parkland School that had been in the bike lane for years and it was fixed in 2 days.

I'm also not saying they should be required. I get that for some people helmets are a barrier to cycling. Implying that they do nothing for safety is misleading though, and people should understand that you can get head injuries without any vehicles involved, in ways that don't happen when walking.

I understand the point they're trying to make, but the wording makes it seem like helmets are unnecessary. They're still important. You wouldn't stop wearing a seatbelt because your car has airbags, or disable a building's fire alarm because you have a fire escape ladder.

The idea that motions are only allowed with advance notice seems absurd too.

I was confused by that too, every other municipality I've seen meetings from has votes fail on a tie.

One of my crashes was off-road, no cars around, and at about 5 km/h. It happened while turning on gravel. My front tire slipped out from under me, and my head hit a rock. It left a small dent in my helmet. I agree that cars are the biggest danger, but I'll never ride without a helmet.

North Saanich Council seems dysfunctional.

Not everyone is perfect at cycling. I have crashed on my own at walking speed with no one else around. Usually doing something dumb, like a sharp turn on gravel, or a uturn on a steep hill at an awkward angle.

I agree. Even at slow speeds many crashes can be caused by the bike itself (tire slips on gravel/ice, handlebar catches on something, etc). The argument of "why don't you wear a helmet while walking" is a whataboutism. Infrastructure has the biggest impact on safety but helmets are still important.

The only crashes I've had on a bike were barely above walking speed, but in 2 cases I hit my head. If I hadn't been wearing a helmet it could have been worse. These were falls that would never have happened if I had been walking, as they were caused by the bike (front wheel slipping sideways).

It's easy to assume from headlines that the writer overlooked a point or objection you may have. But most professional writers spend a lot more time thinking through their arguments than people writing short posts. They usually have thought through these issues and address them in the article.

If they want your plate they just put up a camera for it. Not for speeding or red lights. They keep track of that stuff *and* let people keep driving unsafely. I pass ALPR cameras regularly. They do nothing for my safety. No one is fighting them tho, only the ones with penalty for unsafe driving 🤔

Guys, no matter the topic the proper response to a Nazi is not "Look, you make some excellent points." It's "Shut the fuck up."

I remember feeling a couple moderate ones in the late 90s/early 2000s but not many after that until more recently (last 10 years or so I've felt the occasional one). These "mild" ones are easy to miss.

It is but my understanding is that Telus and Bell share the same cell tower network. Definitely needs to be sorted out though for sure.

I just let it use my phone's location and that seemed to work, but it seems like lots of people that entered their address manually had issues.

Pretty sure that's the same network as Koodo, I wonder if that's the issue.
