Manic Spreadsheeter (ist? izer?). Likes old anime dubs, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and that weird sticky goo that holds magazine inserts in place. Frequently wrong. www.v-i.dev

I just finished Ever 17 for the first time and oh. My. God. Uchikoshi, you've done it again. 23 years ago.

It’s really a shame there isn’t a good site for cataloging VHS releases with high quality box scans like blu-ray.com There was VHSCollector, but they never really accepted direct submissions, plus the site has been slowly rotting for the last 3-4 years, and is almost completely broken now.

“Ages 7+” I think that might the 2nd lowest age rating on any AnimEigo release in history, after those Hello Kitty DVDs

The analog home video format war of the 1980s is remembered for VHS, Betamax, and Laserdisc; but in 1981, RCA entered this new domain with the doomed on arrival CED (Capacitance Electronic Disc) format. RCA spent 17 years trying to answer the question: "Can a vinyl record play a movie?" Cont.

In the first installment of a three-part feature, Kurt Yoder chronicles Haim Saban's beginnings in music to his early cartoon career with Inspector Gadget, Mysterious Cities of Gold and Macron 1.

Random discovery: Miramax gave Beyblade: Fierce Battle a special Canadian release that added a CHVRS rating and a cute little flag to the back, and nothing else. Same UPC, ISBN, and SKU as the US release. And it doesn’t appear to just be a sticker on the back of the case either.

Today I learned that Sparkplug Entertainment’s mockbuster series Car’s Life stars Corinne Orr of all people. Thought she was long retired by 2012. Did they just spin a wheel and choose the first VA they could find with experience in cheap, car-related animation?

Interesting article from 2009 I just stumbled across that has some info on the early days of the Singaporean anime licensor Odex. This may all be common knowledge to some, but I was unaware of the (confirmed) link to Games Mart. web.archive.org/web/20090904...

Nothing like tracking down the one seller on AliExpress stocking screen protectors for the weird handheld you have, only to overpay, fear they got lost in the mail, rejoice when they arrive weeks later, and then *immediately* shatter both when attempting to instal them. Just one of those days

Gotta love the new “streamlined” listing tool in the eBay app that’s so broken you can’t even enter your own UPC, unless I’m missing something obvious.

Just got a giddy feeling after ordering an LS-120 SuperDisk drive off eBay I’ll likely use only once. But the *idea* that I can back up even more is nice. Is this what “tool guys” feel like whenever they pick up weird-o tools like a carpet stretcher?

If I had a nickel for every unproduced live action anime adaptation with Zac Efron attached to the project from roughly 2010… fast.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-04... www.theguardian.com/film/2010/no...

Dreamscape's Alice in Wonderland DVD finally came in, and I'm sorry to report that it's bad. *Really* bad. Cover is non-glossy, and appears to have been made on a laser printer, and the discs are DVD-Rs (which was not mentioned in the description) with the bare minimum for disc art.

If @animeigo.com is looking for ideas for their black jack release, I have no idea if the economics make sense (probably don’t), but I’d pay for standalone releases of Episodes 11 and 12 if they could somehow manage to dub them. Also crossing my fingers for the interviews from the CPM releases

Oh hey, another Synergetic license.

Huh. Apparently the “top logo” Robotech VHS tapes (and all of the LaserDiscs) from F.H.E. were sublicensed from Streamline (who themselves sublicensed from Harmony Gold)

... I immediately hate the ghouls who make that choice to slab an anime magazine that has literal tens of thousands of copies out there, when the only people really buying these books are people like me or Red Bard, who are trying to archive or use them for research.

Bubblegum Crisis just arrived from @animeigo.com via the MediaOCD store, and uh… did anyone else get a UPC for Bubblegum Crash instead on the bag for the slipcover? Real shame, because I like to keep those for my AnimEigo releases, and really would have wanted a proper Bubblegum Crisis one.
